I was hoping someone here could help me with a problem. I have a 50 dodge with a flat 6 and fluid drive three speed trans. The rear axle is shot and I need to replace it. I have a 8 inch rear from a 77 maverick I want to use. The rear fits after changing the perches. Now the hard part. I can't use the original drive shaft because the ford rear uses the modern style u joints. I got a drive shaft in a local junk yard from a 54 dodge truck. This drive shaft has the correct size u joints I need and it is two piece, that is it has a splined shaft and collar built into the shaft. I thought it would bolt to my transmission but ,alas, the bolt pattern is different . My question is , if I go back to the yard and pull the drum from the truck transmission will it fit on my transmission? Any ideas???

I have a spare on you can have if you pay for shipping. It is off a 37 and looks like a fan. Dan

It requires you to remove the yoke to get to the seal ,so yes the yoke was removed. I did not apply any particular torque to the nut holding the yoke on. Rather I just got it thght and spun it to get a sense of the bearing load. I did some research here on that and thought ,unlike ford rear pinion, there is no bearing load adjustment, just get it tight .If I'm wrong then I need to loosen or tighten the nut. How can I figure which? Thanks, Dan

I was hoping someone here could shed some light on a noise my car has developed. It's a 50 dodge and I just put a 58 Plymouth I6 motor in it. I had to change the oil pan but it fit every where else. It has the original transmission which is a three speed fluid drive. So I get it all together and go for a ride. Everything worked great. I get it home, jack it up to see if there are any oil leaks. I see the pinion seal and the rear transmission seal are leaking. So I replace both. Both were easy to do and after topping the oil levels I took it for a ride. Now it's not leaking but at 50 miles an hour it makes this noise. It's like a "womb, womb, womb, womb noise that I can feel as well as hear but the car is not shaking. And the noise goes away at 60. It sounds like a drive line noise ,something off balance ? The E break hub and pinion hub are splined and go on in no particular position and the drive shaft just bolts on where the holes line up. Any thoughts? Dan

I need a new clutch disc for my 50 dodge fluid drive car. It is 9 1/4 inch ,10 spline with 1 1/4 inch bore. I founf one that matches these specks but it is a unsprung rigid center disc and the one in my car is sprung. I thought since it is a fluid drive car the unsprung disc would be fine. Any thoughts?

The older I get the less I'm interested in modifying cars. I liked the way the car drove before the motor blew.I'm just not sure the transmission has much life in it and I got this low miles two speed. Is there a way I could tell which size rear is in my car?

O.K guys,I have a question about this subject and can't make up my mind. I have a 50 dodge with a bad motor. This car has a three speed fluid drive. The transmission also has seen it's better days. I just bought a flat 6 from a 58 Plymouth with 21,000 original miles on it and the guy threw in the transmission. I was going to use the old three speed ,but then I though about getting a adapter and going with a modern 5 speed or OD transmission. But I have this low mileage 58 two speed push button transmission that ,of course , will bolt right up! Now I know my cars transmission mount is to far back, but I can alter that. My question is, were these transmissions any good? Will the car be more of a dog out of the hole and at what rpm will I be at driving 60? Boy any thoughts would be great. Also ,I just got the transmission, not the shifter. There are two ,well three cut off cables on it. One is for the e brake the other two well? One must shift and the other mush be the kick down. I don't need to use the kick down,if that is what it is, but the cable that shifts it,does it just pull in and out or is there something special about how the push button shift works?

What is that transmission I see? I need that!

So I decided to put another flat 6 in my 50 dodge. I was going the 318 auto it. I found a 58 Plymouth that runs good and real low miles. I'm going to put all new gaskets on and would like to use the 50 head as it will accommodate the water fitting and allow me to use the original gauge. Are they ,other than the fitting mentioned, the same? Also the water pump and damper pulley stick out to far on the Plymouth and I want to switch them. The water pump is no problem but I can,t see how the pulley comes off the crank on the 50 dodge motor. The Plymouth had a single center bolt and then I put a puller on , it came off easy. The dodge looks different. If I can't fit the dodge damper on the Plymouth:eek: motor I'm screwed. Any info would be great. Dan

What year is the tk5 ranger trans . Will the 4 cylinder rangers work? Seems all the yards have lots of 4 cylinder trucks.

Thanks all. I think I will take the front clip off. I never have any help and can just see the motor crashing into the inner fenders. And yes,my car is a three speed standard with fluid drive and the 58 is two speed auto. I think there will be issues with the rear motor mount. It looks like the motor is supported in the front and under the bell housing? I am wondering if the auto trans will fit on the rear support brace ,which is welded across the frame rails. Also , can I put some other transmission behind the I6? I have a friend who has a 37 Plymouth with a three speed where the shifter comes out of the top of the unit. That would be neat.

I to am wanting to put a more modern transmission behind my flat 6 . I don't know about pual curtis. What have you heard? My 50 dodge have a three speed fluid drive that leaks.

I have a 50 dodge with a bad motor. I found a 58plymouth with a two speed auto and I 6 with 21000 miles. So I bought the motor and tranny and am wondering if it all can be pulled with just the hood off? That is ,pulled from my 50 dodge. It looks tight and I may just pull the motor as my car is a three speed standard car. But a automatic would be nice. That was my other question, are the two speed transmissions from 58 any good. Did they work good and were there any problems with them? Thanks in advance! Dan
