  1. It seems like it's going to be easier to get a ford 9 with regular drum brakes. I'm planning on going with gearing between 3.50 and 4.10 and the trans will be a TF-727 automatic. The front brakes will be upgraded to discs using the method outlined by Tex Smith in his book about Mopar Rods...So I can get away with drum brakes in the rear without worrying about braking issues.

  3. Thanks! I had no idea that there was ford 9" with factory discs! I was really only looking at old vans and trucks so, for all I know, there could be a nice rear sitting there waiting for me.

I'd like to drag race it now and then just for the fun factor of having a massive 4 door sedan light 'em up So it looks like I'll need the added strength of a later model rear end to take the abuse. I found a ford 9" at the junkyard that should fit without any problems and a little fab work and it looks like the best candidate at the moment barring a poor gear ratio. I believe they had a cable that attached to the drum to activate parking brakes...I could tie that cable in to the stock e-brake lever. Tex Smith has a lot of information in his book "how to build mopar hot rods" about ford 9" swaps so I'll take a look at that and see how he went about transplanting one into his 1946 business coupe.
  5. I'm swapping a 360 Mopar engine and a TF-727 trans into my 48 sedan. I'm wondering if the stock rear end will hold up to 300-400 HP? I could do a Ford 9" swap but I'd rather stick with the stock rear if it'll handle the power. Does anyone know the width of a 48 sedan rear end? I tried to measure it today but I didn't have a jack handy and I couldn't maneuver the tape between the drums while cramped under the car.

  7. Sorry to be off topic, but did you fabricate those engine mount extensions running from the frame to the mounts or purchase them? I've been looking to put a larger engine in my Plymouth and I'm doing research into others' build ideas to find the best method. Thanks!

It turns out that the rubber gromet WAS the problem but now that I have taken it off and pressed in a new one, I can't seem to get the linkage back in to the proper orientation with both the column and the hole it connects to below Does anyone have a picture of it's orientation on the car? I've looked at many diagrams and it seems that I had it in the proper position but it would never line up with both connections at the same time... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated because this has me truely stumped!
  9. I recently broke the shift linkage bushing on my P15 and decided to make a new one using a polyurethane sway bar link bushing. After pressing the new bushing into the shift linkage lever, I found that I could not get it to line up and fit with on the column stud and in the shift arm below at the same time. It seems that if I attach the linkage to either one, it is at the wrong angle to properly attach to the other. I was wondering if there was a trick to attaching the first linkage arm or if anyone had a picture of how the arm attaches on the vehicle? I have seen the exploded diagram of how the linkage assembles but I still can't get the linkage to attach properly on my p15. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. Gabe
  10. Good! Now...where is neutral in the shift path? I'm 20 years old so that means I know nothing about anything before CD's and 5 speed trannys. Haha
  11. I looked it up in the service manual and it seems that they are not exactly the same. I'm not sure how the parts differ so I couldn't really say which parts are interchangable.
  12. Thanks! I'm really close to firing the old flathead up for the first time in 20 years but it would be kinda hard to do with the transmission stuck in reverse. Haha
  13. I recently bought a 1948 sedan that did not have a clutch linkage. One month later, I've fixed just about everything that needed service...with the exception of the clutch. I circled everything that is missing...excuse the poor use of microsoft paint Essentially, I need everything in the assembly after the turnbuckle. I'd really like to get the entire assembly, turnbuckle and all, if at all possible. Does anyone know where I can find one and how much I can expect to pay for one? Many thanks!
  14. Does anyone have a diagram of the p15 brake system? I'm in the process of restoring a 1948 4 door sedan and the brake pedal is currently resting on the floor. There is a recrangle bracket under the car which returns the pedal to the upright position when I pull on it. I'm looking for a diagram that will show me the linkage from the pedal to the bracket and maybe all the lines (it's sat for 20+ years so I'm going to change all the lines) Thanks!
  15. Thanks for the ideas! I'll have to check out the salvage yard in Hershey. I have a friend from up in Harrisburg and he's pretty familiar with the area so that will be the first place to look. If I strike out there, I may be paying a visit to George Asche.
