I attached some pictures of my truck. Which would be a better option for the floor carpet or a rubber mat?

I have been working on my 49 fargo all winter and just about have it ready for the road this spring. I am very excited to finally be able to drive and enjoy this truck. I would just like to thank everyone for all the info on the forum very helpful. I still have a few things to finish up but nothing that will keep me off the road. Thanks to all the members.

Thanks to everyone, I got the truck running last night. First time hearing it run. Runs great, I Had it hooked up gravity feed for the fuel, I tried hooking the pump up but can't get it to work. Thanks again, the chev guy that's helping me wishes his trucks ran this good. -

I have done everything that's been suggested here. I have spark fuel compression. I have an older gent helping me now, he's s a chev guy but knows his stuff. We are both stumped, changed points condenser, freed valve have spark at the right time. How easy are these motors to flood? Or does any one have any crazy ideas? Thanks -

Does the firing order start at the firewall or front of truck ? -

It's a first time startup for me, the truck went away running but I've played with the sparkplug wires now also had a stuck valve so I had the head off to free it. I put a new head gasket in nothing serious work wise had the carb apart just have it on a gravity feed couldn't get fuel pump to work. Should I try new spark plugs too maybe spark is to weak. I had it hooked up to a 12 volt also to really spin it over. I will try checking the timing now with the suggested method. I was getting pretty discouraged for a bit. Thanks for the help. -

Can the distributor be 180 out I thought it would only go on oneway ? I ve checked plug wires but they must be wrong . -
49 Fargo has spark, fuel, compression, but doesn't want to start. Does a lot of backfiring and sputtering. I think I have spark plug cables in right positions on distributor. Any help is much appreciated thanks.

Thanks, ya the engine reads t112 but it is a 25 inch head could this be a casting mistake? I just picked up a shop manual to the other day it's great. I plan on just driving the truck so maybe I will leave it 6 volt. I've read that a few guys swapped rear axles with jeep Cherokees is this my best option for a 1 ton ?

Ok thanks I will drop the oil.

I haven't had my truck running yet but apparently it was running before I got it. Just wondering if I should change the oil, and drop the pan to see if there is sludge. Or should I try and get I going first? Can I determine if there is sludge just by feeling the oil on the dipstick?

Hey thanks for the help and the link to the decoder, my truck has a 228 in it, also I ordered a shop manual for it. So now should I replace old oil and flush rad before I try and get it going? I read in another thread I should also take oil pan off clean any sludge out is this correct too? Any other pointers or things I should be doing before I fire it up? Thanks

Wow thanks alot for all the info, if I have further questions should I post them on this board or over on the truck board ?

Well the motor in my truck says it's a t112 is this correct for a 49 the t112 is a 218 correct ? Also it is a splash lubrication system right ? So where is the oil filter? Bare with me I'm green to these older trucks. There is 2 slots in the floor for batteries but it's a 6 volt system what is that all about then? How easy is it to swap gears in the rear end and what would work? I want it to go a little quicker. Where can I get replacement parts for these trucks like brakes interior panels and so on? I don't want to overwhelm anybody with all these questions so il leave it at that for now. As you can see I need alot of guidance with this so thanks again.

yep thats what it looks like. I attached some pictures of it let me know if you can see them to make sure i did it correctly. So i guess i have a 1 ton thank you for clearing that up. Should i just restore it on the original frame then ? I really have so many questions and no real direction in where im going. I would deffinatley appreciate anyone who knows these trucks, time to answer a few of them.
