  1. D35 Torpedo's post in Removing transmission bolts was marked as the answer
It takes me like 35-45 mins to pull the trans. Really easy, no need to pull the floor pan. That particular bolt can be reached with a wrench, but I use a 3/8ths socket on a long extension.
  2. D35 Torpedo's post in steering column slanted left was marked as the answer
That's normal due to the offset of the steering box and dash center. A lot of cars are like that. My old chevette was so pronounced that the wheel was an odd shape to offset the column.

You will never, in a million years, wear down the ring gear from a little grit.
  4. D35 Torpedo's post in 1950 Chrysler M6 output shaft/tailshaft leaking, proper re-seal proceedure was marked as the answer
You probably need a speedi sleeve. I just did my 3 speed. It took an SKF 15620 seal and 99156 sleeve. I also put the right stuff on the splines to prevent oil from wicking out.

Just hone it and toss it back together. It will be fine.

Will it go into reverse? Have you tried disconnecting the linkage, and shifting the transmission by hand? Once it is in second, look at what it will take to get the shifter there. Maybe the shift lever is loose on the transmission. There is only so much throw between 2nd and third. Where is the shifter when you put it in third? Sounds like the linkage needs to be shortened.
