  1. I saw this Stude at The Minneapolis Messaround....it was impressive to say the least and set several records at Boneville this year if I remember right.
  2. Dave- I would not be needing it done until after the first of the year. I have to save up some coin and also have about 10 other projects going. I am in no urgent rush but would like to drive this thing next summer if the bank account agrees with the process. Send me a message and let me know how much you would want to get the project done, plus parts obviously. I can pull the motor and bring it to you. Merle- I will look him up. I know there are a few resources here in Minnesota and there are plenty of machine shops around, I would just like to support those who have the same interests if possible. Thanks again guys...today was a bit of a downer when she would not turn over but I guess what can you expect out of a truck sitting since the 70s and who nows how long since it had plugs in it! If anyone knows of any 218s around Minnesota or Wisconsin I might be open to that as well!
  3. Actually it was an 1 5/8"....I broke down and bought a set at Northern Tool...nice set and had a $20 coupon to there as well. Pulled the radiator and tried to spin her but she is locked up tighter than a nuns *******. I dont want to bend the rods and she would not budge with the breaker bar on it. So I guess now its time to research a rebuild. Anyone have experience in the Minnesota area with rebuilding that is looking for some extra x-mas money?? Probably worth rebuilding anyways for as long as she sat. Someone tell me it will be worth it! ha
  4. Thanks a ton guys... I tried getting my caliper in there and just could not get it in there accurately even with the fan off. Unfortunatley you are a ways from me although I will be on my way back through from Chicago on Saturday...no worries though I just have to buck up and buy a set just wanted to make sure it would have the right size in it. I tried menards and they had no large socket sets at mine? Time to hit up Northern Tool I think! I will let you know what I find out guys...thanks!
  5. nobody can tell me what size the crankshaft pulley nut is? Help me out if you can guys....
  6. So I am getting ready to start tearing into this 1952 B-3-B and I want to spin the crank to find out if she is free. I have soaked the motor in Marvel for about 2 months now and its as free as it is going to get. I probably wont ever need a complete 3/4 drive set outside of this truck..so i dont want to dump a bunch of money on a full set. long story short...can anyone tell me what size nut is on the crank so I can see if this old girl will spin freely? I am guessing it is around a 1 1/4 or larger. Thanks in advance
  7. Hey Dan thanks again for coming to take a peek. I learned a lot just in our talk. I have been patiently soaking the old girl in Marvel hoping that she will be loose enough to spin over by hand. Its a good thing I have a couple other project to finish up or this could be painful waiting! The carb was all locked up so my next project is to get that cleaned up and working. I also picked up a good score on some NOS factory shocks on ebay this week for $36.00...one piece at a time! Cant wait to tear into this thing once riding season is done and gone! I will try to keep this thread updated with progress status and pics...
  8. Thanks for all the quick replies guys, I can already tell this is going to be a great place for information. The truck was stored in doors for the last 35 years and it was a solid shed that it was in. The truck is very solid itself and has some great character. I just cant let it go by the wayside. All the suggestions were in line with what I was thinking. I was planning to hand crank it over and see if she will move before anything. I read the diesel in the cylinders a couple of other places and may give that a shot in addition to the MMO. Are there any good sources out there for a shop manual on these trucks? Maybe I have not searched far enough but if someone can source one that would be great. Dan Olson is going to come over from here in town to take a look at it. I will get some pictures up for you guys soon so you can see what I hope was an amazing find! Thanks again guys!
  9. Hey guys, Jordan here in Minnesota. I recently picked up a 52 B-3-B that has been sitting since the 70s, from what I can tell and the back story I got from the last owner's daughter. My first task is seeing if I can get this thing running. There is no key, no big deal small battle. The bigger problem and most likely the reason she gave me the truck is the fact someone pulled the plugs out of this thing, at some point. They never put anything back in. Such and easy thing to prevent! ha. Is it possible to get this thing running without a rebuild? I put about 3oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil down each cylinder just to let it soak in for a couple days. I was going to crank the engine over by hand with no plugs in it and see if she will move. What are your guys suggestions from there? I am mechanically capable and have build several bikes, and modern cars, but this is my first go at a project like this. Any help to a newcomer would be much appreciated. I would be happy to supply the beers if anyone is close to Rochester and would be willing to evaluate. Thanks guys.
