  1. Its good to know that it should run well at lower RPM. Currently it isn't fond of running much lower. I will definitely be looking at ensuring everything is dialed in. This rig has several firsts for me. First positive ground, first dual carbs and first time having to rebuild the manifolds. I believe I may have a slight exhaust leak where the manifolds attach to the block. We did not have them surfaced after welding them. We just got it close and figure we would see how it did. I'll likely pull it apart again and have them surfaced properly. I find there's not much mechanically that I am not willing to try doing myself and this rig is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
  2. Thanks! I am thrilled to finally get it running. Its fun learning about it as I go.
  3. Alright, well I have some major updates today. We were able to reassemble the manifolds and carbs late yesterday. First thing this morning I went out and worked on starting it. Keep in mind this motor has been sitting unassembled for around 12 years from what I can tell. the intake and exhaust manifolds were broken and we had to weld them. The balance tube was missing so my son made me a new one at school. A few observations from my efforts, It has an electric fuel pump and the factory fuel pump is just for looks, the electrical systems is spotty. My emergency lights work but no other lights. Brakes need attention. Long story short. I was able to get it started. I recalled a request to film the start up so I made sure I did. The file was too large to upload so I put it on Youtube. You can view it here
  4. Not yet. So far the brakes seem operational while towing and everything on it was put on hold while I had the intake and exhaust manifolds repaired. Got them back and now its time to start digging in.
  5. Not sad at all that you know what that means. I love running into folks familiar with it. Yes the 52 is a 3 ton. I'm new to alot of things on this rig, so I am definitely still learning. I have 2 other fire engines but this Dodge is the newest of them and the one I am least familiar with. The other 2 are a 1948 Ford and a 1950 Chevy.
  6. What is the piece in this picture that is circled in blue? My fuel pump does not have one, if its needed is there a known place to look to find one?
  7. Thanks, The balance tube was made by my son in his high school metal shop. He still needs to weld the flange on to the tube but then it should be good. I am extremely happy with how its turning out.
  8. A few years back I purchased this fire engine. Long story short, the motor was being worked on when I got it and I am just now getting to be able to reassemble it. My current struggle is where the fuel lines go. Nothing seems to naturally fit where it would seem it needs to and I may have an extra line that does not seem to have a home. I do have the dual carbs that are still connected. It would seem to me that the farthest right line goes to the carbs. the farthest left it likely incoming from the tank and should go to the top of the fuel pump. Not sure what the small line in the middle is for. It almost seems like I may be missing something like a fuel filter and a plug for one of the holes on the pump. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Rob, My research shows that my 1952 was originally from the city of Enumclaw. So that would make 3 here in the upper left by my count. Hoping to get mine started soon. Just waiting on the new balance tube to be finished up by my son. Then I need to take a look at the fuel lines as I put it all back together as it almost seems like I have too many.
