What is the proper backspace for the 53 1/2 ton wheel? Perhaps the only right thing to do is get down and measure out the axle, break, finder etc. and calculate it and compare with the kind of wheels I'm considering?

I am new as an owner of one of these machines. I found one in excellent condition this summer. It came with the original 16" rims for it in the bed of the truck. The owner had a set of tires with 15" rims on it when I bought it. I am having trouble finding a clear statement in the manuals of what size tire was intended for these trucks or was the entire idea for there to be a range of tires with no particular size the "right" size.
