  1. Thanx fellas, I always know where to come when I need technical advice for my old girl. You guys wil be hearing more from me as my journey goes deeper into bringing my 48 back to road worthiness.
  2. I know, I know I should look in the technical section, but i have done a search already on transmissions on here but it takes me to everything but the transmission. I was just curious about the T5 transmission and who has them installed. I want to install one on my flat 6 in my 1948 Desoto. I wrote a PM to Don C. for a little info already. I was just trying to get everyone's opinion about it thanx everyone.
  3. How do I know if my '48 Desoto transmission has over drive? I know this is a silly question but I'm still new to the classic mopars. I can post pics if that would help out.
  4. I decided to pop my engine out last weekend and got my tranny off and blame ran into a brick wall. How the heck do you get the bell housing off. I am dazed and confused right now. Can anybody help please:eek:

  7. I have been sanding my car by hand and with my orbital sander and I have officially given up. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good places around virginia that due soda or media blasting. Im going to practice sand blasting on my frame next weekend. But Im not going to experiment on my car I rather have a professional do it.
  8. You can get the break kit from Master Power Brakes here is the website www.mpbrakes.com, fat man customs has the drop spindles if your into the lowered look.
  9. WOW bro you got yourself in a prodicament but these guys will steer you in the right direction. I wanted to do an air bag set up, but after looking around at drop spindles from fat man custom and disc brake set up's it is considerably cheaper. I was just looking into the money to bang ratio:cool: for myself. But hey you do it your way dont let these guys sway you even if they are right.
  10. Can anyone help me with finding a place that does chroming here on the east coast? I need to get both of my bumpers redone. I know they are going to be an arm and a leg to do. I just want to get them done.
  11. You have my greatest admiration. Im still hand sanding my 48 desoto because my air compressor kicked the bucket and Im to cheap to get a new one LOL. This is the first car I let my boys take sanding blocks to and they are loving every moment of it. You keep up the hard work and hope to see some new pics. Cause i am guilty of not posting any new ones myself.

But I enjoy everyone's input whether good or bad, please keep it coming in. I love critics, they make the wold go round. I also have reworded my work in progress to a custom build since I will be adding an updated suspension. LMAO, I still do not know what difference that makes but I will comply as to not offend anyone else. LOL, so to all have a lovely Mopar day:cool:
  17. Wow thanks for the vote of confidence!!!! LOL, I thank you for your comments it helps keep me focused on my task at hand. So I will change my phrase from restoration to custum. I love everything about my car inside and out. I just dont like the suspension, thats my only complaint when I was driving her around. The suspension is just not myting. So my apologies it will be a custom and not a full off restoration LOL.
  18. I'm taking the 48 down to the frame to do a full body off resto. I want to keep everything original but, I want to update the suspension. Im trying to avoid doing a front clip swap by any means possible. So Im looking at a air bag set up I'm going to have to frabicate from scratch. Other then that it will be all stock from head to toe.
  19. Well here is Day 2 of my tear down. I have officially got to say this vehicle is very, very user friendly when it comes to the tear down process. I dont have any manuals to go off of so Im basically guessing my around and the car is guiding me through. I thank you guys for all the encouragement
