  1. Thanks for those, it does appear that I’m working with a different chassis then...which is a shame as I can actually get the shackles shown on yours ?
  2. Afternoon all, managed to make up some new mounts for the shocks, spacers are on and the wheels now move without taking half the bodywork with them and I’ve repaired the god awful rusted mess that was the handbrake cable...issue I’m now having is the rear leaf spring bushes. I’ve had a look around and from what I can see the ‘54 uses the U shaped shackles? But my mounts look completely different: any thoughts? Maybe after al this I have a ‘54 body glued to some crap chassis ?. Replacement ‘original’ bushes are not going to be easy to get hold of so I’m going to make some Delrin ones on the lathe and give them a go. At least with the end of the world there’s plenty of time to tinker.
  3. yea, there's no sign of any other holes or work done to the chassis so bit stumped .. but holding some shocks up in this area works well in regards to the axle so I'll go with it, make some brackets up and do a bit of boxing. Cheers for all the help so far gents ? Also managed to get some 3" studs in the right size over here so hopefully almost all my rear end troubles will be gone in a few weeks (touch wood cross fingers etc etc)....
  4. automotech 4ton There is another hole opposite, it seems to my untrained eye that it’s roughly where the shocks go to..
  5. I dont think so .. I'll have to have a look tomorrow. Ultimately i'll box the frame out roughly where the shock should go to and depending on how the bed sits I'll either get a bracket on top like yours is or do something similar to the earlier trucks and have it on the bit of steel i box with... it's won't be correct mind you. Merle, these might be just what im after .. i can press the studs out so longer ones plus spacers are an option but that seems like a more robust way without individual spacers etc
  6. The bed was all there, i took it out as it was a bit worse for wear so needs sanding down etc. It sat on the angle frame running round the edge and then on that one rusty bit of frame just between the two cross beams, you can see it better here:
  7. haha .. whoops! Couldnt tell you off the top of my head but other than the oil getting too thick in the cold and the release leavers being in an annoying place it's certainly made life easy. I'll have a look in the morning and let you know.
  8. Last but not least, Frank if my truck was the one you were referring to .... i have no idea .. is it lifted? sorry ?
  9. And sorry for the photo bombardment, any idea if the holes here are where the old shock mounts went? Cheers Karl
  10. Pm'd ? Yea, removed one of them today, needs a little cleaning up but it'll get there... Also, side not (sorry for being 'that guy' but my knowledge is only just starting with these trucks) can anyone help identify the rear axle? is it stock or has it come from elsewhere? I'm getting the parkingbrake cable made up and need a few bits for inside the hub too Also note the big ol tyres seem to have a clearance issue with the bodywork... how do people not realise this stuff! Edit ... and yes, i realise there's a stud missing, he was removed to see if longer ones could be found so a spacer can take care of the tyre issue!
  11. I’m still baffled by the boost gauge that’s had its needle stuck at the 12’oclock position....just gotta find me a nice original and all that crap will be out in a flash
  12. Crazy amounts of awesome work, makes me realise my suspension wo's are a mere annoyance compared to the other stuff people have done! Had a good look around and whilst i could get it mailed overseas, now i can see where and how the shocks should be mounted I'll be having a play around with some steel and see what i come up with to get it back on the road ... long term I'll just start coming up with a nice list of things to order over ... what have i started ?
  13. Cheers guys, saw the pics from the c1c6 build and that’s when I realised I’m missing both axle and frame brackets..seems like mine are supposed to be on top the frame instead of inside like the earlier ones so perhaps fabricating a bracket up to weld/bolt on top is the way forwards...
  14. Cheers chaps, awesome stuff. Looks like I have a bit of work ahead of me sorting this out! Jeff, any chance you have some pictures of the shock mounts on the axle? I found these on eBay and whilst I can’t get them over here it’ll give me an idea of what I’m aiming for: thanks again
