  1. I thought about that. I was thinking that because they were put in V8 mustangs and cameros mabee it could handle it. Wish my grandfather hadn't taken the original out!
  2. I'm hoping some of you could tell me what rear axle I have in my 1952 b-3f152. It is not the two speed. Can I get parts for it? Or can I match bolt patterns with a newer rear axle to get an E-brake at the wheels. The truck was my grandfathers and is complete except for the transmission and radiator are missing. The rear axle has been sitting in dirt for 20 years so.... if I can get parts (bearings, seals, ect) I will look for a orginal transmission. If not, I need an E-brake so I am tempted to go the T-5 and new rear end way. Any suggestions? Thanks Jon
  3. All right, I give up. I have been on the internet looking for a freaking model number to the numerous transmissions that were in a 1952 dodge 1 1/5 ton truck. I have looked at the transmission page of the shop manual online. All they say is "new process 5-speed or 4 speed" but no model numbers. Can anyone tell me what the 4 speed sychro trans is. And while I am asking how about the rear end as well. It is a 1 1/2 ton truck with a single speed rear axle. Thanks Jon:confused:
  4. Thanks guys, I never thought of the steering and brakes. I just thought it would be a hoot to drive my restored orginal looking truck to the lake with my rv trailer. But it was never designed for that. The other engine choice I had thought of (to avoid the steering shaft problems of a V-8) was the Ford 4.9 I-6. But the brake and steering problems would require me to take it to far from an original look.
  5. I thought about the cummins idea but the engine is very expensive. plus I have no experience with oil burners. Thanks Jon
  6. My truck still has the original 236 in it, has not run since the late 1960's. I also found a tag on the rear end that said it had 5.62 gears. The transmission is missing. But if I restore to orginal I am guessing top speed is going to be 45-55 mph. I could regear (if parts are avalible for this 1.5 ton) to mabe a 3.73 and get to 60-65. The problem is I want a driver not a show truck. I have thought about other engine combinations mabe a 318 and a 5 speed tranny. But I really want to tow the travel trailer on the weekends. Any body know if the truck is capable of going 65-75 mph towing a 27 ft travel trailer with the original 109 hp motor? I really want to put it back like my grandfather had it but I want to have fun with it to.
  7. I am dealing with a lot of floor rust and I want to de-rust the frame completely under the cab.
  8. Thanks for all the information on my grandfathers truck. I need to seperate the cab from the frame. The truck is at my parents house and I need the frame so I can start rust/ axle/ suspension restoration. I do not have room for the whole truck in my garage. The best way I can think of is to remove and/or grind the body mount bolts off, remove the font clip, then jack up the cab so I can pull the frame out from under the cab. My question is, since you guys have probably done this before, how hard is it to remove the front clip/ how many body mounts are there to get the cab off, and is there a better way that anyone has used? Thanks Jon
  9. When my grandfather died 16 years ago he left me his first welding truck. Now at 31 years old I am able to start restoration on the truck. The truck has been sitting since the late 1960's. It is mostly rust free but I do need a floor pan and the metal fins that the parking lights are in. According to the research I have done it is a 1952 1.5 ton 152" wheelbase. Are the drivelines different that the 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton. That goes for the brakes too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jon Tulsa, Ok
