  1. Thanks all. Upon closer inspection it looks like one of the small wires was shorted to the distributor housing. Going to replace that wire and test again.
  2. I have a completely stock 41 Dodge Business coupe (6V). Was hard starting but ran ok, parked it and now no spark at any of the plugs. I've cleaned the points, checked for the little wire grounding inside the distributor and changed the condensor. With ignition on and I put a screwdriver at points to 'arc' them I have a strong spark. When i disconnect the high tension coil wire from the distributor, hold it to a ground and crank the engine i get nothing. I'm thinking i have a bad coil (it's the original type with the wires on both ends for the armored ignition cable). Is there a simple way to make sure it's the coil, before I buy a new one? Am i missing something obvious? Thanks in advance for your help.
  3. Thanks for clarifying - makes sense!
  4. Thanks. So the replacement set with one spring is then inferior and i should dress/re-use the existing two spring set up?
  5. Hi all, I'm replacing points on my 41 Dodge Business coupe. The existing set has a steel and copper 'spring' but my replacement set from a reputable vintage Mopar supplier only has the steel spring. Does this matter? What's the difference? Pics attached for reference Also, I've heard about 'floating' points if the spring isn't attached correctly. I assume one/or both of the springs should be secured by the small screw that also hold the fabric covered wire (which was frayed and I repaired). Thanks for any advice you might offer.
  6. I just got a call from the radiator man letting me know that my stock radiator for my 41 dodge 3w coupe is junk. I see that Champion sells an aluminum unit but only lists it for Plymouth and the later model ('49) seems to be a closer fit dimension wise. Anyone know if a 41 plymouth and dodge car used the same radiator and does anyone have experience with one of these Champion units. Thanks in advance.
