  1. Thanks everyone,I will explore all of these suggestions to determine the problem.hope to get back out on the road soon.
  2. Thanks, I will try these.i adjusted the clutch pedal as far as it would go and the clutch engaged more to the top of the travel, but made no difference in the grinding. I did no greasing of the through out bearing as it came pre greased . Could this be an issue an issue . Is the pressure plate adjustable?
  3. I put in a new clutch plate and through out bearing , and used the old pressure plate in my attempt to get my truck back on the road after 30 + YEARS of garage storage. The differential I got from a old Plymouth worked fine after swithig out the small gears as suggested but I can't get it in first gear without it grinding .I tried to adjust the clutch but did not help. I don't remember having this problem when I parked the truck years ago . Would appreciate any advice on what to look for.
  4. Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I can finally get this truck on the road. If i didn't have this website help, it would have been years later.
  5. In my search for a replacement ring gear and pinion set .I was told that a 1950 Plymouth sedan dog head with the gears would swap with mine in my 1950 Dodge truck model B-2-C. With the 3.73-1 ratio that I want . I have found a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook with the gear ratio I want . Does anyone know if this will work the same as the 1950, I would hate to have to take out my diff. if I don't have to.
  6. Thanks,I appreciate the feed back.
  7. I want to make sure that I fully understand what you are telling me. I can use my existing differential and just change out the ring and pinion gears assembly from a 1950 model Plymouth sedan and only have to change out the output flange and maybe the small gears if spline count is different on the axles. I don't have to change out the hog head part of the diff.
  8. Thanks, I appreciate the help ,I would be lost without this sites help .
  9. Merie, this sounds like my best bet as I have invested already in all new brake partisans seals for the old axle .Did you use the original differential housing ,or did you have to switch this out also. Did you use the same drive shaft and universals? Update, I have called around our state to the salvage yards and have so far only found a 1949 special deluxe coup with a 3 speed manual trans .t They can't tell me if it is a 3.73 gear ratio though,it is still attached to the car .He said he has a 1952 Meadowbrook also with a 3 speed manual trans.
  10. Merle, this sounds like my best bet as I have invested already in all new brake parts and seals for the old axle .Did you use the original differential housing ,or did you have to switch this out also. Did you use the same drive shaft and universals?
  11. I have kept this truck original . Won't changing out the rear end lessen the value of the truck? I have had a recommendation of using a diff. Out of a o8 explorer with a 325 to 350 ratio, to get more highway speed.
  12. Has anyone found a source for this ? I have a 1950 B-2-C that I need to replace this in. I have heard that some truck owners are replacing the differential with one from a 1995 jeep which is about 1 inch wider, and changing out the drive shaft .
  13. thanks to everyone for the help .I found the bearing (in stock ) at Carid.com , they had a Timken bearing to match the national 1207L front bearing that I needed. The rear bearing is National 1209SLand the rear housing seal is National 8160S .
  14. Thanks for the info .I pressed off the old front bearing inside was chewed up where the marking would have been . Thanks for the part numbers. I am getting closer to finally have this truck on the road after setting in the garage for 32 years.
  15. I am in need of the parts that operate the brake bands around the drum . I have the drum shoes ,the cable from the handle along with the bracket at the end of the cable. I welcome anyone's advice on where I can find these parts. Thanks in advance.
  16. Anyone have a part number for these bearings ? I am in need of a replacement bearing for the front of my 1950 Dodge truck . Can't seem to find a number for the one in it now
  17. Thanks Dodgeb4ya ,that is the route I am going to take . I have ordered a new bolt,I am going to do as you suggested with the old one. Thanks to everyone else for their input .
  18. Well I have. Problem using that I stripped about the first half Inch of threads off of it using it to press the timing gear on .The bolt on my engine is 1 1/16" dia. not 3/4".
  19. Thanks for the replies, I have a vacuum gauge, and valve spring compressor, I wish I had a longer bolt to press on the crank pulley, as I stripped the first 1/2 " of thread off the bolt trying to use it to press on the timing gear on the crankshaft. I am afraid that the replacement nut I am buying will do the same if I try and use it to press the pulley back on .I don't think the bolt isn't long to get enough threads started to be able to put much torque on it. Surely someone has the correct tool to do this job,I just have to find it.
  20. I have been working on my 218 cu. In engine that hasn't been started in 33 years . I have had issues with tool rental that will not work on my engine . I am looking for advice on where I can buy the tool needed to install my crankshaft pulley.
  21. Thanks for the input. I am going to use this yolk with the new universals and run it in gear up on Jack stands to see how it acts ,then I will decide if I need to replace it.
  22. Jerry I appreciate your effort to find one for me,but I have already purchased Cleveland universals for the driveshaft and have installed them on the rear . so I need the yolk that is like my photo which has tapped holes for the cap retainers.
  23. No, here is a photo of what I have . Someone has modified the end by inserting a splined insert and spotwelding it to the end. It has the Cleveland universals. It measures 2 1/4" inside the yolk width and is approx 5 1/2" center to end with 1 1/8"dia. Universal cap size.
