49-52 Suburban owners....maybe 53 or 54 ?

I wondered if any of you Suburban owners have run across one of these rear cargo area rubber mats. This is an original I guess cause it's very old and dry and has the DCPD logo on it. I'm also wondering if it fits a 53 or later too. NORM ? Overall it's about 40" x 54"

Does anybody reproduce these? If not I'm contemplating having some made. Thoughts?????

I've never seen any reproductions. Mine had an original rubber mat but it was in bad shape and I tossed it. I cut some carpet to fit and stuck it down with double stick tape. My guess is that one size would fit all the Suburbans through 54.

The tire wheel well as seen inside the 53/54 are very different in size as compared to the earlier Suburbans..I compared my 51 to Lou's 54...

Tim, Do you have any photos that show the difference ? Norm, can you post a photo of your 53's rear area ?

I did not get pictures of Lou's interior per say...the inner panels he gave to me for templates...the opening of the wheel housing was much difference in height and length...the length itself would be enough to stick out like a csore thumb. On my interior I think carpet cut to fit and sewn on the edges would be nice..

Here's how the 53 interior looks. The fenderwell area kicks up a step between floor and fenderwell.

Thanks Norm. It looks like they are pretty much the same. Does your car have a bumper on each side at the rear that touches the gate when closed? Here's some dimensions of the rubber mat. The mad is notched out to clear those bumpers. Bob Vanbuskirk, Does your 54 look anything like this ?

The part number cast in the rear center of the mat is AU 1543942 RED.

The '54 mats were colored to match the interior.

Thanks Bob. The 54 mat does look to be shaped differently. My mat has 2 different part numbers. One for black and another for brown. Now I'm wondering if a mat for a late 40's woody would be the same as the 49-53 Suburbans.

On another note....what have you guys found to be the best product for restoring flexibility and shine to old rubber?

I would think the 53 and 54 mats must be identical to each other. The 53 and 54 cars are virtually the same except for trim.

That looks like an original 49-52 mat for sure. I have a friend who I think will reproduce it for you. I sure hope so, I've looked for one for 20 years. Email me or pm me Reg and I'll get you guys in touch.
