Plymouthy Adams Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Reg..I had a bunch of tranmissions site listed on my work computer so did not have quick ready access at the first writing. I will post a few of these. I knew that in later years the 833 went to aluminum cases...and as far as the OD units I knew there came to be just after the first energy crisis and was found in the Miser truck and van series and the feather-dusters etc. These will give you some better indication of origins but cannot find an exact decipher for the years and such... http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/40618_a_833_manual_transmission_swap/index.html http://www.drivetrain.com/vartransp29.html http://www.drivetrain.com/newprocessA833.html Hope this will help you out some..all in all in my reading this morning..the weight difference is aruged between 15 - 30 lbs lighter..real advantage is the gears..further is the linkage set up..if you get the donor tranny..linkage will be a necessity also... james curl Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Chevrolet used a NY6 New Process transmission in the 80-86 pick ups. It was an aluminum case 833 with 4th being overdrive. All foward gears are synchronized. Quote
james curl Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 The NY6 used both a chevrolet bolt pattern and a half MoPar/Chev bolt pattern. You could look for a AX15 Transmission used in Toyota R series, Chev S-10 & Colorado, 1992-2003 Dakota I/4&V6 and 1990s Jeep two wheel drive. Quote
wilmot andy Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 I've been looking for an A833 for my 383. They were cast iron till the 70's like Tim said. The aluminum ones were put behind alot of /6's. They removed the 3 + 4 gears, flipped them and put in an OD. Quote
