Rodney Bullock Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Well, we parked the Plymouth and put on some Bo didley and Chuck Berry and started on the stude this morning, Saturday I sent the day with an old restorer putting the glass and panels in however today the young guy's got a chance to do their thing and got the motor in my hot rod hawk and hooked up the stuff. All that's need now is for my guy to put the fenders back on and paint, we can even bolt the seats in if we want. oh boy what a day! Quote
Jim Shepard Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Ah, that brings back memories. My Dad had a '57 Golden Hawk when I got my license back in '63. Got my license in July and my first ticket in September... Quote
Normspeed Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Rodney, you are really moving along with that project! Any internal mods to the engine? Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 Yes, we did alot of work to the heads larger intake valves and some work to the ports, as you know the original stude motor did not breathe well, we also had the cam reworked for more low end power. I will be using the Edelbrock carb. Jim, I bet having acess to a 57 Golden Hawk was a highlight. They tell me it was faster then a 57 Corvette. If I got a ticket with it I would frame it:) I'm kind of mild mannered so I don't think I'll be getting any tickets:cool: Yeah right because the Police will not ever catch me ....hahahah The Golen hawk is very rare now, is it long gone? 40phil41 Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Randy, I noticed you used an intake manifold lifting plate. Did you install the engine with tranny? How did the lifting plate work out? Did you also use a lifting leveller? Good looking Stude. My Brother-in-law (one of 5) just bought a '55 Stude (259 ci) 4 dr. from Arizona. It is in transit as we speak. Phil Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 The machist made this plate for me(25.00) I lifted the motor all the while it was in the shop. When I installed the trans I was afraid it would not hold. He told me that it would, we used it all day yesterday, hanging the motor while we installed the stater and generator, all the trans guards and such, because of the three holes when we got into a bad spot we pu the motor down and switched holes, no leveler needed even cleared the cross member. I undersatnd this plate can be used with many type of intakes so I guess it's a keeper. very strong, he sais nascar uses the same type for thier installations. PS 1955 Stude's are to die for great find:) Quote
Phil Martin Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Had a 53 stude coupe in 1963. Drove from SanDiego to Ill and Back then back to Ill. Love that car has to be my favorite of all I've had. Quote

Tony Cipponeri Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Rodney, I will never forget back in 1957, I was driving my 57 Chevy and a older guy in a Golden Hawk pulled up along side of me and reved his engine. Boy did I laugh at him, when the light changed I jumped on it to show him what a 57 Chevy could do, Well I got spanked real good. He pulled over so that I could see the blower under the hood. I never told my friends that I got my doors blown off by a Studebaker. Tony C Quote
