took the shift tower off my 53 3/4 ton fllor shift trans and can't get it back--i dislodged the forks and rods taking it apart, while trying not to--but...--biggest issue is not understanding all the relationship of forks and rods,as well as what looks like a reverse'lockout ' arm as well as the 2 sliders that the forks slip into--hope to hear something-thanks in advance

The transmission looks like it is a four speed, from a 46-47 Dodge truck. There is a Pilot House parts book file that ggdad posted, you have to go to the last post, to get the file that works. I bookmarked it and checked transmissions, I don’t see one that looks like what you are showing. Here is an earlier transmission with the reverse gear shift fork #60. My service manual only say’s to have it in neutral to put the top on. Reverse doesn’t come into play until the gear shift is moved to the right under spring tension, and pulled back for engagement. I could go on about your getting it running project, I’ll stop here. Rick D.

wow!--well,first--thanks!!--second,it is only 3 gears forward--but that pic is right on for mine--pretty sure no one would have ever changed it since new but..so was that trans used in later years??....def a 53 truck

also, after some trial and mostly error i figured out the forks/rods and put the shifter back on the trans

I looked in another C-series service manual. With the beveled gears and what appears to be a synchronizer, it is similar to the early transmission that has straight spur gears. So your transmission is a newer synchronized version. That’s good, but you still have to find out why you can’t engage reverse. Could be a balled up spring in the lug and plunger, I don’t know. You will have to pull the top and do a closer inspection of the mechanism. There isn’t any more information in the manual that would help. I’m still learning myself, that’s why I didn’t recognize the gears at first, sorry for the misinformation. Rick D.

hey and thanks!-to be more clear-it was working perfectly, when i took the tower off to get engine and trans taken out,i moved the shifter and could n't get back to the right 'settings' of rods/forks--eventually did and back together--still mad about that bellhousing-crossmember set-up!! very cumbersome
