P24 door weatherstrip profile help please

Hi all, 

New member here, giddy owner of a Oz built p25 Cranbrook. 

Loving this page and the wealth of knowledge available. It sure is needed on these cars as parts are hard to come by in Australia. I've searched high and low on the search bar here with no luck.

I'm wondering if anyone may have a good photo of the original style weather strip for between the door and body. I have had the issue of the doors sticking out and after many attempts to adjust it correctly I've come to the realisation that the door seals that have been installed previously are too thick and they create issues. Without the seals, the doors line up, sit at the correct depth and have a good even panel gap all the way around. 

So I am chasing the correct seal and I can't find any definitive info on the profile required. I have found a website for Oz that's Scott's Auto Rubber with a profile picture for a sponge type door weatherstrip for a Diplomat. But it doesn't look right. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated. 

 

P.S. in time I will post some pics of my new pride and joy and the progress on it.

Hello Ozjohn53 and welcome. Looking forward to pics and stories as the project progresses. I can't help you out technically with a proper profile description but I can tell you that if you search different suppliers mentioned in many of the postings you will find that AB has a weatherstripping package and they may be able to assist you with dimentional information or other information. I will PM you with the site contact as I am not sure what I am allowed to post on the forum.

John, welcome aboard, these guys know their stuff........as for the correct door seals here in Oz Richards then Chrysler in South Oz sometimes used the USA stuff, othertimes maybe not.......I'd get in touch with Andy Bernbaums, I have delt with them for over 30yrs and have found them to be good to work with.......I've no direct knowledge of what seals your 1953 car needs as I have played with 1940/41 models but the # 260.077 would seam to be a good option.......I'd also suggest checking with Clark Rubber and Old Auto Rubber here in Oz, as they may have a similar product without the cost of freight which is going to be high........although you are looking for body stuff do NOT mention if your car has the 25" engine that its a "KEW".......this term is only used in Australia and will completely confuse the Yanks......lol......I'd also suggest contacting the Chrysler Restorers Club of Australia, even tho' my car is a hotrod & has been since 1973 they turn a blind eye to that and maybe able to assist as well.....regards, Andy Douglas

Thanks Happy and andyd. WOW, Andy Bernbaum has lots of stuff I need.

I have a wish-list going for replacement products at AB now. 

Yes they have the weatherstrip seal listed and a good image of the profile which is a good match for the 260.077 so I will go and speak to the Oz suppliers and save my dollars for freight for other harder to get items from AB in the near future.

Old Era Services in NSW have been very helpful to me with 38 and 55 Plymouths, good website and good to talk to on phone, very knowledgeable

Just checked Old Era Services and they appear to be a reincarnation of Peter Jacksons business from the 1970's when it was based at St Marys in western Sydney......he was the go to guy back then for all types of restoration stuff.........andyd

Managed to get new seals from my local rubber place" Better Auto Rubber", which I didn't know was a full restoration supplier. Mainly for Holden, Ford, but he has bits and pieces that I need.

Very helpful bloke, sold me the exact seals I needed and was helpful with tips and tricks and a good yarn. Worth a look if anyone is Gold Coast, Queensland based. 38,000 products they manufacture through 16 different factories.

Got the seal glued into position and the door closes, but sticks out a bit still, so I will apply some rubber softener type stuff and give it time to settle. 

Next time I ever touch doors like that, I'll be sure to first confirm the type/profile of door seals they should have fitted before attempting to adjust door gaps/protrusion. As I spent days tinkering to get it right, but all the while, the seal that was fitted was too thick.
