OnlyMopar Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 Have finished rewiring and bench testing my dash switches and gauges and everything appears to working the way it is supposed to. I am working on my 47 Dodge Custom, 7 passenger Limo, for reference to any help you may have. It has a single dome light at the rear of the cabin, and two reading lights located on each of the rear door pillars. There are auto door pillar switches on both rear doors and the front passenger door, none on the driver side door, no even a hole for a door pillar switch. If anyone has a similar car,am I correct in assuming that all 3 auto door pillar switches should operate the single rear dome light, and each reading light should be controlled by the slide switch located on each door pillar. If you car has a different setup can you share how and when the dome light and reading lights are activated. Thanks Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 Going from memory, on my 47 DeSoto Suburban - Map light in the instrument panel - pull switch on the instrument panel, and door button, right front door. "B" pillar lights - Slide switch one side lights both lights. I added a slide switch to the opposite pillar. I forget which was original, maybe the right. Dome light over the back window - door buttons left and right rear doors. One trick Walter W did was to ground a light circuit through the switches. Theoretically, you could have any number of switches capable of turning on the light. Quote
OnlyMopar Posted November 4 Author Report Posted November 4 Thanks for info. I guess there wasn't an auto door switch on the driver's door pillar so as not to bother rear seat passengers until the driver opened the doors for them, only reason I can come up with. Quote
Solution Doug&Deb Posted November 4 Solution Report Posted November 4 Back then you were supposed to enter and exit your car curbside. That’s why the interior lights don’t come on when the drivers door opens. Makes sense from a safety standpoint. Quote
DJK Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 I went to a pick a part yard and removed the dome lite switch from the passenger door hinge and installed on my drivers door hinge , wired it up, works great. Quote
Bob Riding Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 I'd love to see a picture of the switch, if you have it. Quote

This may be best addressed to DJK, as I have not ought or replaced any of my switches. I was seeking and got information about the placement and assignment of the original switches in my car, sorry 1 Quote
