themoparkid Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 (edited) Hey fellas, I'm new to the group and figured I'd introduce myself. I recently got this 1948 deluxe coupe. Someone put a 318 and 727 in it at some point and decided to tear it down to paint and never got around to actually painting it. I tossed the rear fenders and front clip on real quick just to see what it looked like Edited October 25 by themoparkid 4 Quote

Here in Pennsylvania we expect lots of rust but this one must of spent a lot of time inside or out of state in dryer climate. It's 95% complete...so far the only things I seem to be missing are the hood, headlight buckets, and the rear center brake light. I will post more pictures this weekend! Thanks all for the warm welcome! 1 Quote
Los_Control Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Lets hope the previous owner that did the fabrication, does a better job then me Just a quick thought, you said it has a V8 and you just set the clip back on to make zoom zoom noises .... just curious if they did a good job? Does it have exhaust on it already? .... seems most need to offset the engine about 1" to the passenger side to get exhaust to work with the steering box. Just a idea for something to look at, seems now would be the time to fix it if not. Looks great, welcome to the forum. Quote
Cannuck Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Yes welcome to the Forum love to see more pics Quote

If it is offset i cant tell, it does however have a power steering rack and pinion in it instead of a box....what it's out of I have no idea. The steering shaft also has 2 universal joints in it to keep it away from the exhaust manifold Quote
themoparkid Posted October 25 Author Report Posted October 25 The exhaust is all complete...looks like 2" pipes with a set of short glass packs. The fabrication work is fairly decent. I've come to the conclusion that whoever built it did so in the mid 70's (multiple dash plaques from the 70's up to 83) and was a fairly good stick welder. 1 Quote

Sounds awesome ..... Your car is proven Sometimes you have to worry about someone that starts a project and then never gets it finished and sells it. You just never know what you might run into. andyd Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 (edited) A common rack & pinion installation is the Cavalier/J2000 rack which is a "centre steer" rack, ie the tierods pivot from the centre of the rack.........pics....we love pics........lol......andyd Edited October 26 by andyd more info. Quote
kbuhagiar Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 Good engine & transmission choices, IMHO. I wish the PO of my 47 Plymouth had made a similar choice, if fo no other reason to cease the endless 'traitor' chants I receive from the purists whenever they hear of my 350 Chevy/Turbo 350 powertrain. Had I known that the backlash would be so intense I would have passed on it back in 2008. Quote
themoparkid Posted November 10 Author Report Posted November 10 Well guys after much searching a finally found a hood via Facebook marketplace. A gentleman had it listed as a 1940's Plymouth hood. He was asking $150 for it and I talked him down to $90. Wednesday evening I made the 540 mile round trip to go get it. It's not perfect but it's very solid with a few dents that need worked out Quote
