Pearsebln Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 Since today the 3rd gear of my 1949 Dodge Wayarer 3 speed manual drive jumps out. Whenever I accelerate or brake with a gear engaged. It started doing this all at once. It has not gotten progressively worse. Do you know what this could be? Thanks Olaf Quote
Tom Skinner Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 I had this happen and is was my Linkage to my transmission was out of adjustment. The Steering Shaft has an adjustment for your Transmission Linkage - it needs some adjustment. See Transmission Fundamentals Service Reference Booklet Vol. 2 No. 6 on the Imperial Website pages 18,19,20 and 21. That should fix it. Tom Quote
Pearsebln Posted May 18 Author Report Posted May 18 Thank you for your assessment, i hope itis such a simple mistake. I am also surprised that it started once. That would of course explain it if the levers have become misaligned. Quote
Pearsebln Posted May 18 Author Report Posted May 18 I only have the shop manual for the dodge. I don't know the imperial pages Quote
Pearsebln Posted May 18 Author Report Posted May 18 My gearshift is also quite heavy. When I see videos of how easily riders can shift gears, I think something is wrong anyway Quote

Tom Skinner Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Thanks Sniper, I wasn't sure how to load it. Also The Imperial Website does offer the same Service Booklets. Its been a while since I have been on them as well. Quote
Pearsebln Posted May 19 Author Report Posted May 19 Thank u for the link, i will try to adjust today Quote
Pearsebln Posted May 19 Author Report Posted May 19 I have now adjusted it, I think it's a little better, but it still jumps out of 3rd gear from time to time. I think next I will check the selector ball springs. If they are ok too, I think I have a bigger problem. Could the transmission gears be so worn that the gear jumps out? I can't imagine that the engine and transmission are not properly centered, as the problem never occurred until yesterday Quote
Pearsebln Posted May 19 Author Report Posted May 19 Is there somewhere the dimensions needed to make an overcenter spring gauge? Or is there a guide on how to adjust the spring without the gauge? I want to adjust my clutch because I only have 1/4" pedal play. But without the exactly adjusted spring I can't adjust it. I don't know where it is misadjusted. There are two adjustable push rods and the clutch pedal stop screw Quote
