Bob Riding Posted February 20, 2024 Report Posted February 20, 2024 I'm installing the clutch on the '52 and purchased what look to be hard nylon clutch pivot bearings from AB. After disassembling the old clutch, the metal bearing halves look good. They don't look like bronze - maybe white metal? The plastic ones are the same, except they have a groove in the back, I assume for lubrication. I know plastics have come a long way in the last few decades, but are they better than the originals, or does it not really matter as this application (clutch pivot) is low-heat and stress? What would you use? Quote
RobertKB Posted February 20, 2024 Report Posted February 20, 2024 No question in my mind. I’d go original. Look how good they are after a lot of use. Grease well upon assembly. 1 Quote
DJ194950 Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) I would use the metal if in great shape. They look OK in pics but how much play is there when held over the ball. If reasonably tight use the metal if not I would not hesitate to use the "nylon " . Polish your balls before installation and all is well! ? DJ Edited February 21, 2024 by DJ194950 sp. 1 1 Quote
Sniper Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 Ma has been using those nylon bushings since at least the 60's. Not like they wear out either. 1 Quote
