DarthRaiderBob Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 So, I'm sure this has been covered many times over. We are looking at new wheels for our 1951 Cranbrook. Has anyone had any trouble with the lug bolts and aftermarket wheels? I will be staying steel wheels with conical seats. Thinking of going with the us wheel smoothies in a 15x6 they seem to only offer them with a 3.75" backspace will that be ok? Quote

I have test fitted later Mopar Steelies, Cop Car rims to be exact, on my 51, other than the pin the fit fine. Currently I am running 2005-2011 Charger/300/Magnum/Challenger steelies in the back with 255/50R17 tires, just about perfect, for the back. 1 Quote
DarthRaiderBob Posted August 21, 2023 Author Report Posted August 21, 2023 (edited) Cool, went to that show yesterday and other than a cut valve stem on the way home, the car performed flawlessly. This was our longest trip in it. But looking at the flat tire when I got home, the tires are 20 years old and somebody left the tubes in the tires, probably because they couldn't get the right valve stems. Sniper Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 I cut a bit of fuel hose to slide over the stems and prevent the hubcap from cutting my stem. You can still get the right stems, look for a tractor place or an old school tire shop. MIlton Industries makes them, NAPA NTH 90282 1 Quote
DarthRaiderBob Posted August 21, 2023 Author Report Posted August 21, 2023 I found Valve stems on Amazon, the Milton's in a set of 5. Going to buy new tires and valve stems and be done with it for now. Quote
moparfun Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 The alignment pin can be removed, I used a 1/8 wafer wheel to cut them off. Ideally the new wheels will be hub-centric 1 Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 Check Bernbaums for the full wheel cover inserts to stop the full hub cap from moving and cutting your tire valvestem. saw he had them 4 for $20. Rich Hartung 1 Quote

Rich Hartung Oh cool. I'm buying the metal stems to install since they've left the tubes in whenever they installed the tires that are on it now. Quote
