Marcel Backs Posted July 25, 2022 Report Share Posted July 25, 2022 I contacted VPW and they suggested that I try calling the guys in Montana and they can provide me with an oil pump that has already been tolarenced. kencombs Posted July 26, 2022 Report Share Posted July 26, 2022 I have seen very few oil pumps that needed repair or replacement. Some, but not all, have a little extra end clearance which can be easily fixed by lapping or grinding. So I'm curious about the spate of posts on oil pumps. For future reference, it is not a good idea, as the threads will get separated over time, and anyone who reads one of them will be missing a fair amount of useful background. DJK Posted July 27, 2022 Report Share Posted July 27, 2022 On my 52 P23 rebuild I reused the original pump with a cleaning and new square cut O ring on the cover. Standard rod and main brgs.,new cam brgs., 15w-40 conventional diesel oil, oil pressure 45# at cold start, close to 0 at idle warmed up, no noise and my repair manual states that if pressure is low at idle but increases while driving, don't be concerned.
