Question - Oil sump tube removal

Recommended Posts

Tried to search for an answer but mostly get fuel tank pickups.  Does anyone know of a safe way to remove the oil sump pickup tube in the engine block?   Going to try and pull the crank today.

the oil pump pickup is just screwed into the block.

Know that, grab it with two hands?   Seems like it could be damaged easily.

I used a pipe wrench very carefully.

Vice grips worked. Seem to do better not at the first vertical section at the base but the next vertical piece up from the base. Marked it up a little.

You can take the floating pickup off then stick a 3/8" rod in the pipe....unscrew the pu pipe.

No marring of the pipe.
