billrigsby Posted September 6, 2021 Report Share Posted September 6, 2021 I purchased a fuel pump rebuilding kit and I have three fuel pumps two are identical, have no markings other than made in USA one is clearly an AC. I've dismantled all three the AC has a retainer for the check valves the other two which I think are standard Chrysler 588s do not have a retainer for the check valves and I have no clue how to get them out. Could find absolutely nothing online about rebuilding these guys other than an article from Skinned Knuckles that is basically a generic mechanical fuel pump building guide. The books are of little to no help, the Chrysler industrial engine book does say that to remove them you remove the retainer. So I'm tempted just to go with the AC pump. Any thoughts? WPVT Posted September 7, 2021 Report Share Posted September 7, 2021 The valves were a press fit on my 1954 pump. They are removed by prying them out with a screwdriver. I was pretty hesitant to try that, but the folks at Then and Now assured me. Sure enough, they popped out. The valves were mangled, but the housing was fine.
