Force to Rotate Engine

Recommended Posts

Before I do the oil pump and oil pan, I am wondering

how much force or pounds exerted should it take to

rotate the assembled engine by hand with a 1 foot

long ratchet?

Everything seems to rotate easily, going to get a

fishing scale to get an idea of what force is required

of this particular engine.

Did a search, but came up with everything but.

If the spark plugs are out , or the cylinder head is off , and the engine has not been sitting for a long while and things have not gotten stuck or rusty . " everything seems to rotate easily "  is the right answer .

I have the same question but I need to know which way to rotate the engine.  Looking at the front of the engine will it be clockwise?  Part 2-Will two complete rotations get it back to where you started?

Thanks.

As I assembled my engine I would rotate it after every part or series of parts were installed using an 18” Crescent wrench to make sure it was not binding. Crankshaft, pistons and con rods etc., also slathering on plenty of assembly lube. Clockwise and yes two revolutions.
