1951 Coronet Rear Fender Compatibility

Hey all, I have a 51 coronet that's slowly becoming a parts car for the 49 basket case mostly because I don't like the way it looks and I don't want to work on it. So, the question is, will the rear fenders from a '51 coronet fit on a '49 coronet.?  Both are 4 door sedans. I can't really get an accurate measurement off the 49 due to major rust and separation in the rear fender area.

They should bolt on I believe. You may need the taillights also. I’m pretty sure that 49-52 rears are interchangeable.

Oh that would be absolutely fantastic. I got a set of rear fenders with the car but they were form a '49 ply coupe I think because they were way too short. They had the plymouth rock guards on them. But it would save me the trouble of having to locate a pair and now I can get rid of the other ones

Where are you located? I have a 52 Coronet and if you decide to part out your 51 I may be interested in parts. I believe the only difference between 49 and 50 is that the rear part of the fender on the 50 is a little taller. 50-52 are the same.

Just the rear part with the taillights? Nothing that would affect the fit correct?

Not sure. For 1950 they made the rear of the car more squared off looking. Whether it was all in the fender or whether they changed the quarters I’m not sure.

I may be mistaken as it was many years ago. 

 

My dad bought a 1951 Plymouth 2 door sedan (a Cambridge?) as a rust free parts car for the fenders for my '51 Plymouth. Found out that the 2 door sedan rear fenders were different than the other Plymouth cars of that year. 

 

Maybe a Hollinger's (sp?) interchange manual of that era may be of help.
