Here is a snip of text from Shop Manual from 1940

 

And ethylene glycol is one of the antifreezes mentioned in the owners Instruction Book for my 1933 Plymouth. So its use started sometime in or before the early 1930s.

Point is the factory recommended it back then, you use it?

 

BTW, you'd have to go father back, almost 80 years to find a time when ethylene glycol was "new".  1859 to be exact.  So no I don't think it

is new tech.  It's proven tech that is used in modern vehicles because most other options fail.

If you ran Dexcool you'd need a sealed cooling system, air in the Dexcool system tends to gel it up as I understand.  As with any technology you have to understand the pros and cons and make your decision.
