I picked up a fresh air intake setup the other day, in very good shape.

Grill end;

Firewall end, the flapper still has the original sealing felt on it.

Wonder if anyone knows what the original 4" hose looks like or a source?

I don't know of a "identical" type of hose out there, most now are a coil wire wrapped with a plastic convolute.  The originals were more of a fabric and "flatter" and you don't see the wire proud on the hose.

I wonder why they thought that they needed a fresh air intake when they all had the pop up vent in front of the windshield. I must be missing something.

This is to force outside air through the heater in colder weather vs the cowl vent for cooling during hotter weather

  • 4 weeks later...

Started to clean up the fresh air intake today, on the grill end,

my guess is there is a screen to curtail the intake of bugs.

Probably using these clips?

Does any one know the correct grid size and proper attachment?

Still got a bit to go on this piece.

Also got the flapper dismantled to de-rust and paint.

Once again, wondering if anyone has dimensions?  ?

Yep a square pattern screen about 1/4" squares.  PM if you need and rivets or anything.

Thanks, I was thinking about that size, of course I have whole rolls of 1/2" and 1", time to do some digging in the scrap boxes

as far as rivets go, Dad left me well supplied with a few lifetime's supply of them from UAL.

You can get it at Aircraft Spruce.  https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/cat.php

I like the looks of that, pretty close match.
