‘48 New Yorker compatibility

Hi all,  I just located a ‘48 engine, trans, and radiator for my ‘48 Windsor.  It’s coming from a ‘48 New Yorker.  I understand the NY had a straight 8 with a 3 speed tranny.

Question: Will this work for my Windsor?  Would I have to do modifications for the larger engine, or will it fit nicely in the Windsor’s engine compartment? Also, will the radiator work as a swap?  Thanks a bunch!

Can't give you any advise at all on that swap, but I will ask you to give us some photos and details of the swap if you do the deal?

And,PLEASE,put your old engine and trans up for sale here and other places instead of selling it for scrap. There is somebody, somewhere that needs a core to rebuild.

The front of the Windsor frame is shorter than the NewYorker frame by over 6-8".

Meaning you cannot stuff that longer eight in your Windsor six cylinder chassis.

The unique shaped eight radiator is huge compared to your Windsor rad.

The NewYorker front radiator support and surrounding sheet metal is also completely different so that too won't swap.

None of the suspension parts, wheels, driveline or rear end are the same as a six car either. None will interchange.

On a good note the transmission will.

Eight cylinder Chryslers have the big heavy chassis.

That straight eight has three valuable parts....IF....in real good condition..

The radiator, starter and exhaust manifold.

That New Yorker also has dual heaters with the very hard to find delicate heater control valve at the back of the head.

Don't break it.
