Updating, changed some gears, bearings seals, threw on some color now I am close to reinstalling the transmission back in the truck.

I got more intimate with it than I planned on, I ended up building a transmission top holder for my vice to hold it while I worked the top over

and I fixed some “worn” parts while I was at it

Definitely not perfect but overall, I think it’s better than it was.

I've done a few of those myself and it really tightens up the shift pattern, takes out a lot of slop.  I ended up hand filing the ball sections that were built up to keep the radius consistent with the rest of the ball as well as the slot so I didn't get any binding.  Looks good from here!

Where did you source transmission bearing parts and how did you find part #s?

There is a local bearing company in my area  (McGuire bearing) that was able to cross reference from the numbers on the old bearings. (all but that little needle bearing inside the input shaft.)
My plan “B” was VPW

Mailed the brake cylinders off to be re sleeved Friday so... today I traded the tie rods today from the B4 to the B3, (one on left is Jimbob—- B3)8236E5DC-39F9-49EA-97CE-BB719CA3E120.jpeg.4495dd90e2cc80c5c391a13e47b26618.jpeg

I forgot the tie rods are hollow but, I am glad I pulled them as the end on the drivers side of the B3 was egged out  (and it looks like it had been replaced at some point with a non oem one)6FE9169B-9B35-4F3D-86DD-196AD1A360C1.jpeg.5f5b2deb2aca07fec6dd94fdafbecc54.jpeg

luckily these tie rod ends for the B3/B4’s

1-1/2 ton  are the same as the 1/2tons, I was able to pick the best used ones I had for this truck (for now)

I think we are back in business ?

Say, does anyone know the thread size of zerk fitting for the carrier bearing?

(It is missing)

it should be the same as most of the other zerks on the truck, other than the u-joints.

where'd you send the cylinders to be sleeved?  i have a new rear cylinder at the post office that i can pick up tomorrow, but then i'll also have a complete set of front/rear cylinders needing sleeving, and i may just as well do it now.

As above mentioned above...same as any other truck zerks.....unless a jerk damaged the zerk or replaced the damaged zerk with a ebay Turkish zerk which might be a Whitworth zerk.

That type must be replaced with a SAE US zerk.

Then you can grease the carrier bearing.?

So funny, I found and bought a NOS set for the rear but, one is missing a 1-1/2” piston.  The front, I bought a set from “Rock Auto” but, they just look cheap to me. So, I ended up sending all the old ones to Hagens in Washington ?. I’ve had them do three other trucks for me and been happy (and they are about $30. Per cylinder less from the others)

Minnesota brake and equipment was my #2 choice because they also use stainless

Thanks for the zerk info guys!

Sure felt good to get to work on the truck this weekend. We had an ice event two weeks ago,

650BFD61-8C2C-4376-952A-44A8030A949E.jpeg.f2df0d86a79928290f1a2dbdb022f440.jpeg

took out the power for 12days.
And between my job, helping neighbors and keeping things warm and dry at home, the truck got pushed aside (again)

Still trying to get it movable for the BBQ in April but, the loss of 6days (two weekends) kinda feels like I may not make it, with only 10 days left to work on him.

Still have to finish; swapping rear drums,

master cylinder, booster, lines from “Buck” Then install new fuel pump, ignition switch and the old gas tank.... then test drive ?

At times it seems overwhelming, but I remind myself..... it’s just a hobby ?

Jimbob:  [bounces in reverse]

B: I like it!

J:  HEY ?

...and then your co-pilot bails out before ya get the parking brake set ?

When I first got the 1-ton rolling after its 4 yr hiatus thanks to that tow truck snafu, the gas pedal pedal would hang up like that...I got pretty good at the driving calisthenics, could even grab the pedal going through a turn while downshifting...then I fixed it after the shifter knob caught me under the chin after hitting a bump in the road ?

Lol, she bailed cause it was snanky and she couldn’t stand the smell anymore

After watching YouTube, I removed the fuel tank and “flushed” it. Not proud of the method and I wouldn’t do it again, but now I’ve got to  dump it out and try and burn off the residue.
