wagoneer Posted September 3, 2020 Report Share Posted September 3, 2020 My 48 seems to have come with a rare dealer option (or is it factory?) -- the manual choke (part # 510785 ) instead of the autochoke that is apparently very common. Does anybody know any history on whether this was a deleted or replaced feature? It's a US '48 Windsor with the highlander package, but apparently this seems to be something extra. My car starts very nicely (instantly), so I don't know if I'm missing anything with the autochoke. thoughts? Install is very clean and factory like. Doug&Deb Posted September 3, 2020 Report Share Posted September 3, 2020 In my experience the auto choke hold down screws tend to rust over the years and it is replaced by a manual choke. The Sisson choke (the automatic) on our D24 was not working right, so I replaced it with a manual one I got from Pep Boys. Haven't had any problems since (going on 25 years). desoto1939 Posted September 3, 2020 Report Share Posted September 3, 2020 This is rich witht he 39 Desoto. The pictures of the manual choke are not factory. Your car would have come with the sisson choke installed and would have bolted down to the top of the manifold exactly where the other unit is bolted to the top of the manifold. I have several NOS of these chokes and they have been tested on the factory Sisson choke testing stand. Yes if you go on ebay you will see prices that are out the door, they are not cheap. I also have the sisson choke manual and several other sisson choke literature if needed. Contact me if you are interested. When I put the Langdon set up on I also chose a manual for ease of installation. Starts with no issue and can open the choke almost fully immediately.
