Go Fleiter
I never ever had a shot generator! They are really very reliable and durable! So with loading problems, I began with changing the usual suspect: the regulator. - no result! Than I changed the generator (I always have a spare one in the trunk). When taking off the wires, I found this: a very pitted terminal stud plus it´s completely eroded washer! The reason for this overheating is not clear: Unfortunately, I did not check if the main wire had worked loose. If not, a very rare failing of the generator itself could be the cause, too After my holidays I will buy that 6V one- wire alternator in nostalgic look- I really don´t want to think of the regulator any more! All the parts go into the big spare parts shelfes for later owners wanting to build it back to originality. I prefer to drive it just enjoying the Mopar Engineering - less era- typical annoyances... greg g
That looks like erosion due to electrical arcing. Looks like it went on for a long while. Good you got it sorted, now you can enjoy the autumn driving season.
