Top 5 Favorite Movies

Since many of us will be spending a bit more time at home, I thought I'd start a thread where folks could list their 5 favorite movies.  I'll start with mine, though I really have more than 5.....a somewhat eclectic list.

In no particular order:

The Green Mile

A Dog's Purpose

The Thing (the John Carpenter version from 1981 or 1982)

How to Train Your Dragon

Aliens (the second one....game over, man, game over!)

You haven't seen any of the "Alien" series with Sigourney Weaver?

"The Thing" came out in the early '80s and eventually became a cult-classic along with several other John Carpenter movies including "They Live" and "Escape from New York"

"The Green Mile" stars Tom Hanks and is based on a Stephen King novel that came out a little over 20 years ago.

Indeed, must be a generation gap ?

Saving Private Ryan

The Green Mile

The Book Thief

The King's Speech

1917

The list could change as I think of more movies but these ones would certainly remain in the top 10. Saving Private Ryan would be my favourite. My Dad was a medical officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) during World War II and he saw some pretty nasty stuff. He said all politicians should see Saving Private Ryan as it comes the closest to showing the horrors of war. The only thing he said the movie could not show is the smell of a battlefield. That would be true of all war movies.

I love the Green Mile. Just about anything with Tom Hanks is good but this movie did not have a single badly cast character. What a great story, too.

Not in order, and certainly not all my favorites, but probably the ones I've watched the most often;

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (I saw it when it first came out, first movie I ever watched in a theater)

The Quiet Man

The 13th Warrior

The Sound of Music

Unforgiven

And Blazing Saddles has to have an honorable mention.

King Kong (1933)

The Thing  (1951)  the original version

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Twelve Angry Men

Witness for The Prosecution

All are required viewing every time they air on TV in my house.

Back in 1968 I was in a downtown bar in small town outside of Chicago; they featured an exotic dancer on stage whose performance included fire-eating while  in the company of a live boa constrictor, that and the theme music to  "The Good,Bad and The Ugly" playing loudly in the background. Whenever I hear that music,it brings a smile to my face.?

The Blues Brothers, the original version.

Have never watched the remake, cannot improve on perfection.

Blues Brothers 2000 was intended to be a sequel I believe not a remake.

I am not much of a movie or TV watcher these days. Earlier in my life I was. Today I have 2 old Mopars that I prefer to spend my relaxation time on.

A few movies that stick out of my memory, that I seemed to enjoy include:

Full Metal Jacket 1987

Shawshank Redemption 1994

The Unforgiven 1992

Pearl Harbor 2001

Terminator 2 1991

I think I have gone out to an actual movie theatre 5 times in the last 8 or so years. As you can see my list is comprised of older movies. It took another war movie, Dunkirk 2017, to get me out in the past few years. It was ok. I skipped the recent Battle Of Midway release. It looked way to computerized. Overdone in my opinion.

I haven't been to a movie theater in a long time, so my choices are older films.  There are more to my list, but five that come to mind are:

Blues Brothers

Blues Brothers 2000

99 River Street

The Hitch-Hiker

Split Second

The Blues Brothers movies have all the essential elements I need to enjoy a film:  car chases, music, and used police cars (I bought/sold a number of them back in the day). The latter three movies are all  'film noir' productions from the early 1950's featuring '52 Plymouths (my favorite car).

Thanks Tim, for correcting me.  That's the one I meant.

It's been a while since I've been in a theater as well.  Back when I has a kid, you could go to the local movie theater on Saturday afternoon and see a double feature for $0.25 for a regular seat and $0.35 for a loge.  Extra credit....who remembers what a loge was?
