Demand for alternative (cheaper) aluminum parts?

Well it's been a couple of months and my projects are once again firmly on hold.

'Spose that's how it goes some times though.

So until my working space is back in order I thought I'd poke the forum for thoughts and possible interest in cheaper aluminum parts.

First and foremost intakes but also heads. Since right now the only new on the market are Edgy and they go for a truly exorbitant price.

I understand you pay for the high quality and expertise of course, I'm saying that they seem rather inaccessible price wise.

While I don't see myself producing cylinder heads quite yet, I am interested in the demand for another intake supplier.

They would be made with good off cuts of a known alloy and could be made to order, for the same price or lower than the one or two currently available parts. It wouldn't be much of a to do with my background in design and fabrication. The machining would of course be done be someone competent and experienced, to insure good fitment and all that.

Eager to hear from those more active than myself.

Isaac.........whilst I understand your aims I'm not sure whether the market is large enough to accommodate the price reduction that you are hoping for..........I know maybe 10yrs ago when I obtained the Edgy head from Earl it cost me over $1200 Australian due to the exchange rate and shipping however it was a nice new part and I accepted that due to the relatively small market compared to say, the flathead Frod market there is just a limited number of us mopar morons around so its supply & demand and I'd be surprised if you could reduce the price as unless you do all the work, ie, the design, casting and machining then packaging and shipping each of the people involved have to eat like we all do and so the price rises..................I'm certainly not trying to talk you out of this endeavour just as much as I hope you are successful I also don't want you loosing your shirt either.............the Offy intake I obtained I think from Speedway ended up being about $250 OZ, which including shipping I thought was pretty reasonable and to be honest, as there wasn't an alternative I accepted as the price I had to pay...........anyway I hope you have a successful endeavour......Andy Douglas

I understand your concern fully. Though i think you misunderstand my aims.

I don't by any stretch think I can or should go into full scale production.

However since I'd already intended to do my own casting specifically for a turbo intake, I thought I'd poke the forums.

If anything while my draft is setup and I've got the material I would run off a set or two of my own manufacture. Depending if there was any interest or not. I don't have any intention of trying to be market competitive, even at half the price of ofy parts I would still recoup basic cost.

I also understand that proof is in the pudding, so yes once everything is set up again, I'll have more to show than just aspirations.

Thanks.
