Starter button firewall cover”?”

What would have/should have gone on my firewall to cover the starter button hole?

Car came with a poorly made piece of plastic crap.  I hate to put it back because it’s.... gross.

Wondering if I can adapt a leather shift boot...  ?

In the original setup, starter rod passes through a grommet on the firewall. It seems like the hole in your firewall was enlarged. You can weld on a patch with proper size hole for OEM grommet. or improvise a leather boot, as you suggested.

You can see the OEM grommet in this eBay listing:

That grommet looks about the right size.  I don’t believe it has been enlarged. I can throw a caliper on it and measure....

This is what I was thinking would have originally been mounted in that hole.....

Ah... that’s further up on the firewall.  Mine wasn’t hooked up when I got the car.   Juat had an extra IH 6v coil to the ouside of the voltage regulator...  But I’d like to get an original style coil at some point....

Seeing the word "black" on that makes me wonder if you could get a chartreuse one? Or maybe one in Candy Apple Red?

I guess they put "black" on it in case someone totally blind was sorting them somewhere, and they could feel the raised letters?

They did have the brown color too on certain rubber parts up through 1950 on all Mopars.

I can't make up my mind if that is funny or sad.

Great info!

I’ll have one in brown, please!

Seriously, I’ll be looking out for some of these.

Thanks!

Brown is a challenge to find on most any rubber part...me and Tammy Faye will pray for you to locate one soon?
