Hemibear426 Posted March 21, 2018 Report Posted March 21, 2018 I have a 34 Plymouth that has a 1940 Dodge (D-14) engine in it. The transmission cross member has been hacked up and a welded to the frame cross member (maybe from the 40 Dodge) installed. Is there a way to identify which transmission I have and which bell housing I have? Bell housing is Cast Number 692605-5 (34, 40?). Transmission is now out of car. Quote
rekbender Posted March 21, 2018 Report Posted March 21, 2018 The transmission may have a number stamped at the top rear of the case. Pictures are of '35, '36 and '37 Plymouth transmissions. The last two digits of number on the left side appears to indicate the year the transmission was assembled. The model designation is stamped on the right side. PJ for 1935, P1 for 1936. I've seen build dates stamped on the front case edges of later 3 speeds. Could you post pictures? Quote
Hemibear426 Posted March 27, 2018 Author Report Posted March 27, 2018 Thanks for the response! After scrapping the hardened crude of the transmission it appears to have been stamped " 122838 A D-11". Thanks again! Could post pictures in the future. Loading up today for a trip to the southeast to pick up a '48 Chrysler New Yorker Business Coupe. Just what I need, another old car. Quote
