meadowbrook Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 Hi all. I have the parts to install the PCV system in my 50 Dodge. Im wondering if sharing the wiper's vacuum port in the intake would work for the vacuum source. Dont feel. Like removing the whole intake and exhaust manifolds to drill a new port. Quote
knuckleharley Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 couldn't you put a electric wiper from a DeSoto or Chrysler in the car to solve that problem? I have read here that others have installed 6V electric wiper motors from DeSoto's or Chrysler's in their Dodges to get better wipers,so you would gain twice if this will work for you. 1 Quote
meadowbrook Posted February 12, 2017 Author Report Posted February 12, 2017 I a my happy with the vacuum wipers, I just want to know if the size of that port is enough for pcv Quote
dpollo Posted February 14, 2017 Report Posted February 14, 2017 I use the port in the manifold which originally had a plug on my 51 Plymouth. (electric wipers) I used a Ford PCV valve which screws right into this port. Very neat. I do not have the part number handy but it is an auto supply item easily obtainable. I seem to recall the first one I used was not able to fully exhaust the crank case vapors so I got a slightly larger one. Probably for a 300 six. Quote

JBNeal Posted February 15, 2017 Report Posted February 15, 2017 Mopar pcv installation factory option From what I have seen, there are several flathead intake manifold configurations that vary in vacuum port size and location. My personal preference is to plumb the pcv valve line as close to the carb.base as possible to get full vacuum. A tee at this location for the wiper vac.source will reduce flow with variations in vacuum as the tee becomes a flow divider. Most (but not all) of the intake manifolds that I have seen have a vac.port at the carb base as well as between cylinders 5 & 6...the rearward port is usually used as the wiper vac.source. An alternative to pulling the intake manifold is to add a vac.port to the carb.base, near the vac.port for the distributor vac.advance. A tee at the distributor vac.advance port would also act as a flow divider and may affect distributor performance 1 Quote
