pflaming Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 I have found that Amour All Tire Cleaner is the fastest, gentlest, easiest hand cleaner. No sting, not even in cuts and bruises. Squirt some on, rub in, and wash off with water. Hands are Doctor clean FAST! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) I would not think the ingredients in the tire product would be hands friendly in any manner......personally I find the best hand cleaner is Go-Jo in the purple label canister, the one with pumice...cherry or orange label..may as well use a road apple... DJ194950 Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 ATF- built in cleaners and keeps the Old seals soft or is that the old seal soft ? Hope things are going OK with you and your health, Paul! DJ Quote
Los_Control Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 I know it just sounds wrong, like dj said, and will add engine oil. With a fresh quart of detergent 10/40, has great cleaners in it that will remove grease. May not be my first choice. But if no hand cleaner around, a open bottle of atf or motor oil will work. Of course you want soap and water as a chaser. Quote
pflaming Posted December 7, 2016 Author Report Posted December 7, 2016 I challenge anyone to clean one hand with your favorite cleaner and the other with Armor All Tire Cleaner. My odds are on Armor All . Quote
iowa51 Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) I have found gasoline/brake cleaner/lacquer thinner/acetone the best to clean oil/grease off my hands. Does leave my hands a little dry though. On a more serious note, my dad is a big believer in Cra-Z bar hand soap. One of my wife's Bath and Body Works foaming hand soap also does a great job, surprisingly the "mens" scents of B&BW foaming soap is worthless in removing grime and oil from hands. I could see the Armour All as being a pre-cleaner but definitely rewash with normal soap right after to remove any of the chemical residue. Edited December 7, 2016 by iowa51 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 UltraDerm. There is no Better. Unfortunately, not available anywhere outside of Hungary. It smells and feels like Comet cleanser and Bleechywhite tire cleaner. 1 Quote

T120 Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) Don't want to sound like a pansy a$$ but I wouldn't recommend submerging hands in a bucket of acetone, etc. to clean the grease off,or at least use sparingly. I get these solvents on my bare hands occasionally but I'm a little more careful these days. Over the years I've been exposed to harmful chemicals and solvents that were in common use in the workplace. At one time we used to siphon spray trichloroethylene and use other solvents without adequate ventilation. If in doubt check the MSDS info that is now readily available on the product. Toxicological Data on Ingredients: Acetone: ORAL (LD50): Acute: 5800 mg/kg [Rat]. 3000 mg/kg [Mouse]. 5340 mg/kg [Rabbit]. VAPOR (LC50): Acute: 50100 mg/m 8 hours [Rat]. 44000 mg/m 4 hours [Mouse]. pflaming Posted December 7, 2016 Author Report Posted December 7, 2016 Yes, to washing my hands after using Amore All. Some decry the use of AA for health reasons, so check the label. In the '50's on the farm out in the field, we used clean dirt. Just pick up a hand full and start rubbing, it's amazing how clean the hands can get. The Indians used sand to 'bathe' in the winter. That gives a new meaning to 'beach party'! Quote

Yes probably.........also got some Toth in me. Being 3 generation though I never learned the language.......except some choice stuff my Dad used when he was really miffed. Quote
pflaming Posted December 7, 2016 Author Report Posted December 7, 2016 Maryar = some Hungarian tribe. Toth = ancient diety with the head of a boar! Boldog Karacsonyt = Merry Christmas! Easier now to understand why the Hungarians learned the English language. Balazs, and I thought he came from south of the border!! LOL Quote

maok Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Engine de-greaser works well for me, and its cheap..:) I use soap afterwards. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Nitrile gloves. Box-o-about a hundred at Harbor Freight for next to nothing. One box seems to last forever, and you can get them in so many aesthetically pleasing colors. I used to be one of those "anyone who uses gloves is a pansy" types, then dealt with split fingertips, chapped hands (actually, the missus dealt with the chapped hands, and not too well, mind you), and stale grease/oil/gas odors when I used "all of the above" to clean them. I still dive into jobs without them on occasion, and usually regret it later. Quote
RNR1957NYer Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 I agree with Dan - get the "intermediate grade" glove ( 7 mil?) from HF and they are even reusable. I've used the same pair for multiple Bondo sessions, and even wiped them down with lacquer thinner before taking them off after using POR 15, and used them again. (Not that I'm cheap, I look at it as minimizing my carbon footprint!) Quote
