James_Douglas
In the process of working on the '49 I just found out that there is an issue with the oil pump housings. In 1949 they made the frames a little bit narrower. There is a spot on the right frame rail that was slanted to allow one to take the oil pump off. The problem is that the replacement pumps have a housing that is about 1/8 inch taller than an original. I could not get the pump out, to take the cam out, unless I pulled the pulley and dropped the engine down. I set all my pumps, like 5 of them, next to each other on the bench and the original one I have is in fact shorter in the housing section than all the later replacement pumps including the new melling. I wanted to post this as an FYI to folks. James.

James_Douglas
I mentioned this to a friend yesterday and he pulled several pumps he had out for his Chrysler 8. Two of the three had slightly larger and taller housing that one of the others. Seems that some were just bigger. James
