Joe Flanagan Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I got some door weatherstrip from Roberts. Can't figure out how it's supposed to be positioned on the door. It looks like there are only two possibilities, based on the shape of the rubber. Like this: Or like this: Here's another look at the rubber:
Tatback Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Haha! I have the same stuff and haven't put it on yet because of the same dilemma. I'll be watching this thread to see if someone can help both of us out.
greg g Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Neither! The longer thin piece (under your thumb in pic 1) goes on facing down toward the door with the shorter side facing up. Basically like in PIC 2 but the other way up. rotate the pice in pic three, 45 degrees clockwise. Confused now??? Sorry camera not waterproof.
Johnny S Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Joe, here are the photos off the door on my "Aunt Margaret" .... and I think they would be factory install .....
Johnny S Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) From these it would seem that your 1st picture is correct .... but I'm only assuming that this install on my car is factory original. I can't prove it. But the larger width portion of the gasket sits more towards the interior of the car. The second photo is definitely wrong. Edited July 30, 2015 by Johnny S

Young Ed Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Yes, totally confused. Put the big side against the door. Take more pictures. We'll tell you.
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 page 241 of your repair manual is a clear picture...
Johnny S Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Joe, some additional photos from a different car ..... installed, likely factory install, with the same orientation as the earlier one. The perspective on these is from the passenger side door, about a foot from the bottom .... note that the flat piece goes "down" to the door ... not pointing "out" or "in" relative to the door. The smaller portion of the "V" in the gasket to the door skin (outer) side .... the larger portion of the "V" to the interior of the car. Hope these help more than they confuse. The last one is held oriented to the door ... just like it came off .... with the taller portion of the "V" to the interior of the car. John Edited July 30, 2015 by Johnny S
Johnny S Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Then ..... looking at the top of the door ... note that the taller portion is sitting in a position to be "interior" and the smaller portion of the "V" in the gasket to the "exterior" of the door. In my way of seeing your original photos this is as you have it in your orientation #1 ... Edited July 30, 2015 by Johnny S
wdoland Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I tore a piece of weatherstripping off and painted it white so you could see it better. I'll be replacing mine soon too.
Joe Flanagan Posted July 31, 2015 Author Posted July 31, 2015 Thanks to everyone who responded and especially those who posted pictures. Joe 1
steveplym Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 The bottom picture on your post above is how the weather strip on my 47 is installed, and I bought it from Roberts as well.
