Tubeviper
"The book" calls for 140W in the transmission and 90W in the rear end. Probably GL1 for both. But it doesn't seem that GL1 is available any more. And I have heard that GL4 and GL5 can damage parts in old transmissions. So what is one to do? Use GL4/5 or find GL1? T120
This is a couple of pages I scanned from the 1941-1942 Canadian Edition of the truck shop manual. The 1/2 ton is classed as a DD 1 model rather than WC. It's interesting to note the terminology in the text," mild EP gear oil" - "active" and "Inactive" hypoid lubricants and a method for testing is described ... Jerry Roberts
I bought some gear oil from the local NAPA store that is OK for use with the brass parts in the transmission / differential . I don't remember the GL rating off hand though . It says right on the bottle ' OK for brass parts ' . NAPA can usually order items that they don't have on the shelf too .
