Guest Jen...... Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Here is a 1951 Plymouth Belvedere that i have owned since early 1980s. This car hasnt been on the road since 1977 . The body is almost perfect condition with very little rust out . The rust out consists of a few places in the floor pan and a couple small spots on the body . This project has been on hold since purchaseing the car many years ago mostly due to lack of haveing a place to fix this car it should be. I am at a loss now as what to do with the car. I have sentimental feelings about this car but still know that i cant ever drive it . Quote
Normspeed Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Those hardtops sure look good. Looks like a bit of work needed but I've seen worse. It's a shame that it was stored with the windows down though. Quote

It's a shame that it was stored with the windows down though. have always liked the looks of hardtops pictures was taken when car was moved outside while new building was being built . this building is now complete and car is back inside . i had two of these cars one which became parts for this one . the other was very rusted out . although i did save as much as i was able to from that car. i did take some trim items to chrome shop to have replated and the stainless to be repaired. this same place lost some of the pieces for this car in which i havent found replacements for . i am missing most of the front grill for this car and other outside trim pieces. hugs Jen Quote

Allan Faust Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Hi Jen, Welcome aboard.... Don't let having a place to work on the car stop you from doing something with the car.... it seems you have the most important part, a roof over its head. Take your time and work on little bits at a time... make a plan, and stick to it.....in most cases, all it takes is a few simple hand tools.... and if you do farm stuff out, as it seems you've found out already.... check with who you are dealing with to make sure you don't "lose" anything else... seems like someone made a five finger discount at your expense.... If you make yourself a plan, and work on one "area" at a time, before you know it it'll be done... I've planned for a 4-10 year rebuild (mainly due to cash considerations) and I've torn the whole thing apart (taking pics as I go along), finishing with the body off the frame this summer, and then I began work on the frame..... set up my temporary garage, and I'll be working on the brakes, brake lines and suspension (one wheel at a time) over the winter. Next summer I plan on repairing the floor and rocker panels.... with maybe the motor and tranny being done with my tax return, and so on and so forth... hopefully I'll be closer to the 4 years than the 10, but I'm taking it in small bites. Allan at a time i felt that someday i would drive this car but now know i cant ever be able to . reason for this is that i suffer from vertigo and have bad eyesight. we recently replaced the garage that was falling in , i do mean it was caveing in around the plymouth . removed the car and what else that was of value . the new building is much better but not completed yet. the loss of the parts due to chrome shop was devastateing , i had paid 600 dollars to have items to be rechromed and fixed. what i got back was terrible work by the chrome shop. they then lost some of the pieces for the front grill , the only ones i had for this car. at the time i didnt have any choice but to take what was given to me and leave. i was very young then and didnt have help needed Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Too bad that car is 1/2 a country away. I've got a 51 that runs and drives but is really a parts car. Quote
glendale Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 on craigslist right now you can buy a 51 four door that runs for 500.00 buy it swap out your parts i.e. the body throw some primer on it and drive. vertigo and bad eyesight can be cured in a big open parking lot and somebody willing to ride with you. Reg Evans Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Jen, I have several 51 and 52 Plymouths and might have the parts you need. I'm about an hour north east of Sacramento. I noticed in your photo a 51-53 Dodge Stake side truck. What's the scoop on it? Is it available? Quote
