not to say there is to many plymouth's out there ..

But sheezzz it gets old fast when you go to a classic car meeting/shows and all what you see is the same things over and over again. Tons of fords, tons of chevys all doing the same, lowering/custom paint and that overrated 350 swaps that so noisy you cant enjoy your ride at all.

Been to Pomona swapmeet a few months ago, its the first time i seen everyone walk right past the"same ole cars" and walk over to the VW bugs , more people hanging out on that side of the swapmeet ive ever seen before.. I hope these builders get the picture already, ITS BEEN DONE! do something else to your cars.. maybe put a fuel injected straight 6 from a jeep or a bmw engine in a chevy.. or here's one that will piss everyone off ,put a import engine in a ford...hahahaha enjoy this post.

that is why I will do a cruise in if I do any event at all other than swap meets.  If to much of the same stuff....get in your car land leave...nothing blocking you in, no paid entry to feel you got your money's worth....no period of time that cars MUST be parked stationary...its all on you...pass or play...

Not that easy as said, you cant see whats in there until you pay the man, i wish it was free to get in (it should be)... this is the westcoast nothing free here, $10 per car parking and $10 per head( family of 4 ,you do the math).. Its your taste to be understandable but when you start to see a trend of others doing the same , there must be something wrong right?

in my younger days, full blown engines that would shatter glass would be a in thing, but now i would like to enjoy what i build and you cant do that with loud gargling engines unless your already deaf.

oh well must be the age kicking in , everything makes me wonder now in days.... What i enjoy the most is going to the track & watching someone spend thousands and thousands to make there preeetyy chevy or ford  fast and loud , and here comes a little nissan thats probably worth $1000 and it blows the doors off them.... nothing but down heads and im laughing to the moon   :D ..

wow..never seen a pay cruise in unless it is a benefit event and pre registration..I have always wondered who benefitted....lol    .,.never seen a car show in my area where the SPECTATOR paid an gate fee...the swap meets do have pay entry...some are quite reasonable..some are a tad out of line..depends on the event...I am basically so bored with shows other than swap meets I do not even casually consider attending for the most part..but that I is just myself..

The reason why so many cars are the same is that a good number are there for hardware.  They see what wins the trophies and they copy it.  I think local shows tend to be the worst with boring cookie cutter cars.  I participated in a show many years ago now where there was an almost perfect '54 Buick Skylark convertible.  There was a little crazing in some plastic.  To any one knowledgeable and not biased, it was far and away the best car there.  It had hardware from concours level competitions, but he brought it to the local show to support his buddies.  Which car got the most votes?  A '57 Chevy two door sedan.  I'm always a little leery about going to local shows myself, and, yes, I've been to several that charge to show, charge to park, and charge to look.

The best car show I've ever been to was a show and shine with no trophies to win, and no fees to look or show.  Nobody does those because every one wants to go for a beer on some one else's dime after.

yep parking lot shows, there not posted as shows its more of a club meetup. IMHO its better then car shows, you can meet the owners and listen to there past times and get tips from.. and maybe they will pop open a beer for you on his dime...

The Murfreesboro, Tennessee Hot Rod Club hosts a cruise in every Friday evening in the summer months. No judging, just bring what you have. Costs a buck to park and the buck barely covers the cost of hosting the event. Any funds left over go to various charities within the community. This event draws a friendly crowd with no drama. I have seen over 450 cars at there cruise-in on a good night. Fun event.

Don..get with VanBuskirk..there is a huge weekly cruise in his area weekly or was when I stopped by to see him years back.  One of the better cruise ins for Mopar that I have seen in many years...actually there is a bit of something for everyone...

We have 3 such events like that here. One every friday one every saturday and one every other saturday. Two are free the one I think costs $3 to cover some of the cost of the baricades and biffys. Lots of fun everytime.

we have a free monthly cruise-in here in Joplin during the summer and fall months.

Generally see the same group of cars, but there are a few new faces along the way as people have completed

their project and wish to show it off.  Very few old 40s--50s Mopars..........however a father and son from a nearby

town have a 40 and a 41 Plymouth (one original, one a bit of a rod) which are nice.  Usually no P15 or D24 (unless I

happen to get there with the convert.).

I went to our local car show one time about 5 years ago. They made it very clear to me that my 1980 Plymouth really wasn't what they wanted there. Place me way away from the action with the jeeps and other different cars. The hoppers were closer. Only Mopar that won anything was a Plymouth Road Runner that had been customized to the hilt. Everything else that won was  Chevy or the occasional Ford. Even my neighbor who has a mild custom 55 Chev quit going as his car just didn't seem to meet standards.  Friends caring for friends seemed to be the mantra there. I never went back. In fact I cannot recall going to a show since I left the region club that I used to belong to. I want to drive the cars, not sit and be part of the scenery.

Plymouth cranbrook, same thing happened to me. I was invited to bring my pre fire patina truck. When I pulled in they parked me by myself. I had more people talking to me than all the guys with their prissy cars combined. Last pay-to-show I've attended.

UBUT in the foothills of California is a show, potluck lunch, even free lunch if you have driven a distance, and in fact, if yo'r vehicle is temporarily "down" the sponsor will bring his rig and haul YOUR VEHICLE to the event and give YOU a trophy, may even put you up for night! Now that is what I call service!

More than 15 years ago I joined a fledging local club that was open to all Vehicles. It was with a '72 Opel GT that my son and had put together as a father son project. Over the years I have added a Fiero, Delta 88 and my Windsor. (The Windsor was discovered at a business meeting of the club). Never have I felt pushed off to the side because I did not own a main stream classic I.E. tri-five Chevy or muscle car.

You get out of a club what you put into a club. I became a Board Member and served a president for 2 terms. I have meet some fabulous people and made many new friends. We have a FREE cruise every month for 9 month of the year that are well attended. Yep, you see a lot of the same cars every month but there are always some new ones. Most enjoyable is just visiting with the owners and hearing the stories.

We also host a paid entry show once a year with proceeds going to 2 local charities. Last year over 600 entered and more than 20,000 spectators attended free of charge. We have raised over 80k for SIDS and a day camp for handicapped kids over the years. How much more could you ask for, enjoying your hobby with other like minded folks. Doesn't get any better than that!

things are both the same a different here in MN, yes you go to "Back to the 50's" and see over 12000 vehicles, but I still get my share of looks with FEF being different. This year we are going to do PH day and see if we can get all the members here to park in the same area, might be a bit of fun in that.

Now, go to a "MoPaR's in the Park" and you will fast get tired of looking at all the same cars parked in rows  Never thought I'd get bored looking at Road Runners and such, but you can with that many on one place.

I'll say this for western NY, there are plenty of car clubs and shows - but - after a couple years you've seen all the cars at least two or three times.  They run the gamut of make/model specific shows to open events.  The western New York Volkswagen club's "Bugfest" is a hoot whether you like VWs or not, its done in conjunction with the German festival at the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Museum in Amherst.  There are also cruises somewhere virtually every night of the week in the summer, those are the best.  Folks that don't take their cars to shows are out, and all the cars are fulfilling their purpose - being driven.  I'd say the best one for anyone in the area is the cruise-in to Paultner's (old fashioned ice cream shop) on Transit Road in East Amherst every Tuesday night after Memorial Day to Labor Day.
