Recommendations on running board recovering?

Recommended Posts

The ugliest thing on this Airflow is the running board condition. In searching the web and talking to a few people who do this I find a wide variation in prices. Hard to tell if the quality varies as well.

I found a place in Georgia, Hunley Acuff running board repair, who has dies for this car and his price sounds very reasonable. Anyone use him? Results?

Other recommendations?

Thanks.

Hunley Accuff has been making good quality reproduction rubber running board covers for a while. I believe that you have to send the originals in as cores (preferably stripped of the original rubber covers). Recommended vendor.

Buckeye rubber in OHIO makes a number of replacement runningboards for Chrysler product vehicles. They make a complete running board with a new heavy gauge steel core. They are the ones sold on ebay by drop shippers and can be bought directly from Buckeye for less.

Yes Acuff is an excelt running board revalculanization process.  I do know that he was one of the first to reproduction the rubber for the 39 Mopars.  He is not cheap but has very goood quality workmanship and you do use you existing boards.  If you can strip the old rubber off and sand blast them that will save you some cash.

Also touch base with Rodney B  he has board made for his ply by buckeye and he seems to be very pleased with the quality

Also it also depends on what you are planing to do with the car. Show quality or driver quality boards and you do not care that the sheet metal is not original it all in the eye of the owner and how mush cash you have to spend.

Usually when an item is reproduced or remanufactured as a OEM replacement the quality suffers.

The Buckeye reproduction running boards are actually superior to the OEM in that the metal core is thicker, therefore stronger and unlike the originals that "scalloped" over time the heavier metal used in the Buckeye running boards are sturdier then originals and dont flex or warp as the originals tended to do.
