Hershey Fall Swap meet Oct 8 - 11 anyone going

OK:  Well its almost that time again when MECCA will be calling all antique car/truck owners to gather in Hershey PA for the Annua lNAtional  Eastern Fall swap and carshow.  The car show will be held on Saturday.  So if you are attending most of the vendors have left the parking lot on Saturday morning since the car show is the major draw for the day.

So if you are looking for parts then Tues-Friday are the days to be there.  Alot of the venders come in from Carlise from the week before.  Also be prepared for rain which is a tradition at Hershey, we call it the Hershey Liquid Sunshine.

I am planning to Attned but will not have my vending spot this year.  My fellow vending partner has decided not to vend this year so I wil lnot have a site for anyone to stop by and chat.

Who is planning on attending and on what days?

If you are going then lets start a list of who is attending, what days and your cell phone number. Maybe we can contact each other for a quick get together during the days that people are there.  Would be nothing official but would be nice to meet other forum members

So her we go:

Bob:  I am planning to be there on Thursday and Friday.  I will put your number into my cell and try to call you during the day time. Maybe we can meet up at central spot. One of the most easiest spots to meet up is at the bridge that goes over from the Chocolate field over to the Green field which is where the GIANT indoor arena is located.  We can arrange on a spot when I contact you.

Is there any organization of vendors by brands or products they mainly sell..........like MoPar, Ford groupings, etc.

Or is it a hodge podge of everything like most swap meets?

Posted

Bob:  It is more of a hodge podge of venders.  If you purchase one of the AACA progrtam booklets then it will list the venders that have paid to be listed. So basically the Mopar guys are scatted thoughout the four major parking lots.  And then you might come across venders that have a collection of all manufactures.  Wear good walking shoes and also bring some good rain gear. We call it Hershey sunshine and it ususally rains one day.  Br preared to walk your feet off. You can doa field a day. I have found that by walking down the middle of a row you can basically tell what a vendor has to sell very quickly and if oyu have been collecting parts you will see very quickly if the vendor might have something of interest.

HAppy hunting you never know what you will find in any given year. The venders come to life around 8-9 since they are camping on the parking lots and then making breakfest and then take off their tarps. Look in the dollar piles you sometimes can get some good buys if you know what you are looking at.

Prices wil lbe high but if they have the part that you really need then you have to pay to play. I do know that site goes for around $90 so they are trying to recoup their site fees. In the Green field there is a section of Packard dealers but then again the program book will help you if this is your first time being at MECA.

I may wear my 1947 Plymouth cap == don't know if anyone would notice it.   Can't hurt I guess.    I now have a new wire shopping cart with

vacuum cleaner handle added for better tow-ability.   just in case I find anything to tote.    (I had a good one til the tornado made it disappear.)

Hope to get a chance to meet you while there.

Hope the injections work out for your back issue.  Just wanted to let you know that I have the 39 Desoto sedan so there is basically one almost in your backyard.  Here is my cellphone number 484-431-8157.

Wear good walking shoes if you are having back issues since you will be walking on blacktop all day.

post-1292-0-44092000-1412973380_thumb.jpgHershey 2014:

bob Toft and a friend and Rich HArtung all met up at Hershey on Thursday at noon to have some lunch together.  The weather was perfect with a breeze and the SUN was shining.  Bob had arrived on Wednesday and had done some walking around the fields.  They were taken back by the size of Hershey and how many venders that were in attendence.  Bob did find some molding for his plymouth along with a couple of small trim peices for his doors.

I was able to find some  NOS riveted brake lining with the rivets included for $10 for a set of four wheels.  I pourcahsed two sets.  A couple of years ago I had to purchase rivets for some brake shoes and the rivets alone cost me more than the two sets of brake linings so this was a real bargin.

Found a few advertising items for my 39 Desoto.  I willpost the pictures of the three amigos  while resting our tired feets and backs from walikng the swap meet.  Hopefully next year we can get more members of the club to meet at Hershey.

Rich is the one with the Green Desoto hat and National Desoto Club red shirt.  Bob has on his Plymouth hat and is sitting on the right and his friend is sitting on the left.  So now you have pictures of the three amigos that went to Hershey this year.

Rich.........nice to meet you............and thanks for posting the picture..........it looks just like us.  lol

Yep......we found a few things (most of which I don't really need, but on some of it the price was right and I

like to have spares).  My friend, Nils, found a few things for his later model Chebby truck.  We got back to

Joplin Sunday night about 6 pm.  Drove a total of 2,316 miles, including a partial driving tour of the battlefield

at Gettysburg.

I posted a further report on my Hershey doings over on the Off Topic page.

Bob:  Glad that we could meet up and have lunch together.  Let al ltry to plan to meet next year if the good Lord permits.  Glad you arrived home safe and sound. When the prices are good the spares just seem to be better.  I picked up some riveted lining in the box 2 complete sets with rivets. Might not ever need to use them but have them as spares.

Anyone from the SE Michigan area planning on driving to the meet? I am kicking around the idea of driving and there is safety in numbers :)
