Smokeywolf Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Probably been asked before but How can I find the original owners of my 1939 D11 Business coupe? Quote
Mark D Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) I was able to obtain a Build Record for 1949 plymouth first series P15 special deluxe. They sent several copies of the microfilm of the Build Records. The quality is not great, but they sent enough copies that all of the option codes are legible. They also sent me information about where the cars were originally sold and what some of the options were. Very cool info! What To Do:Send a letter requesting your Build Record to:Chrysler LLCCorporate Historical Collection12501 Chrysler Fwy.CIMS 410-11-21Detroit, MI 48288 USAAttn: Historical InformationBe sure to include the VIN of the car in question and proof of ownership (a copy of the title, for example), a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check made payable to Chrysler LLC. If your build record is not on file, they will return your check. The cost is $45 per VIN requested. (Note: The price may vary from $25 to $45 as of 2010; please check the Chrysler Historical website for current pricing.) In a week or so you will have a valuable piece of your car's documentation. And remember, the folks working on your request are volunteers. Good luck! Edited July 29, 2014 by Mark D Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 The Chrysler History department willnot beable to tell you the prior owners of your car. They can only provide the build sheet and information about the car when it was built and the options that were available for the car. They olny thing you can do is ask the prior owner who you purcahsed the car from if they knew and have any info onthe car and the prior owner that they purcahsed the car from. Since these cars are 50+ years old the original family members might be dead and then you might never find them or any other info. Even the state where you got the car might not have any past records and the state that you purcahsed the car in might not even be the state where it was first registered. So it is a long hard search effort. Rich HArtung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
1941Rick Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I was very lucky, all that information had been kept with the car. Every owner after the original owner updated the ownership. I always wonder if anyone of the original owners family eith exist or remember the car.....may be another project to pusue. As for your car it might be a real effort to follow the trail or what is left of it..good luck Quote
Mark D Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Getting the build sheet allowed me to find the city where my car was sold. I then went online and found someone at the local historical society that was referred by the local library. After several emails traded, the local historian turned out to be old enough to know the prior owner and original of my car. I lucked out, but the original owners son wasn't interested in talking to me. Sad, but I respected his wishes. Quote
