Joe Flanagan Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 I'm rebuilding my u-joints (ball and trunnion) and I'm having difficulty getting one of them back into its housing. The first one went in with a little manipulating but the second won't go in no matter what I try. I tried removing the spring washers from under the centering buttons and it's still a very tight fit. With the spring washers in place it looks like it's going to be impossible. Is there a trick to this? I did not remove the pins, so they are in the same location as before. The housings never came off, either. All other parts are new. I tried light tapping with a rubber mallet but it would require more force than I want to apply to this. Quote
desoto1939 Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 Joe: Make sure there is nothing binding. You shoukld be able to push the housing foward away from the end of the main shaft and the pin and the roller bearing and the end caps then should bottom out at the other end of the housing. Are the flat end pieces that hold the rooler bearing and needle bearing siitng inthe croove correctly. This should be a very smooth operation and the pin should slide very easily in and out of the housing. I also received you email about the pin tool. Rich HArtung Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 I got it. Don't ask me how because I don't know. I was just sitting there fiddling around with the centering buttons and the thing just slipped into its housing. Thanks for the assistance. Joe Quote
