Mark D Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Quite jealous I can't make it to the gathering in Buffalo this weekend, so I've decided to take the ram by horns and suggest another gathering later in the summer. Anyone in New England/New York/beyond areas interested planning/participating in a gathering someplace in the middle of the territory? I was thinking about a trip to Hemmings up in Vermont. Any other suggestions? Love to get a weekend trip on the books for mid-summer. Was thinking of cross posting this on the POC facebook page as well to see if there's any interest. Let me know if you're interest, suggest a location ir itinerary, and a date. Trucks or cars, the more the merrier - Mark Quote
desoto1939 Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 I will be attending a wedding in August 15/19 and the wedding is in the Rutland Vermont area. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com 1 Quote
larryconnors Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 I'm interested. I was considering a visit to Plymouth Vt this summer 1 Quote
Mark D Posted May 29, 2014 Author Report Posted May 29, 2014 Hopefully we can get a few more guys interested. I'm not stuck on Bennington, happy to consider any destination. Quote
greg g Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 There are also weekend events through the summer at the auto museum in Saratoga Springs. Quote
Mark D Posted May 29, 2014 Author Report Posted May 29, 2014 Saratoga works for me, maybe even taken a horse race while we're there. We can have our own derby weekend! Quote
rtlsnakedaddy Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 I've got a lot on my plate this summer, but if the date lines up would love to get out and meet up. 1 Quote
Mark D Posted June 2, 2014 Author Report Posted June 2, 2014 BUMP- Greg Saratoga sounds good to me... Let's get a date on the books! ratlsnakedaddy, is your car driveable yet? How's progress. Special challenge to the PA guys... let's get you in the mix too. Quote
greg g Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 sent an inquiry to see if this is an open show as far as years and makes. August 16th. http://autohausmotors.com/registration2014.asp Quote
Mark D Posted June 3, 2014 Author Report Posted June 3, 2014 Just plotted my route, 157 miles, route 2 takes me almost straight there. Perfect time of year for a jaunt through the hills of western Mass. Bunch of guys from my thirsty thirsday club go out there every year for the races. Will consult with them for accomodations, but seems to be a bunch of old fashioned motor courts in the area. Quote
greg g Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Mark Skidmore College has accomodations accross from the campus, at the north end of the village. You can make reservations even though it is non Skidmore related. http://www.skidmore.edu/surrey/rooms_and_rates.php Quote
rtlsnakedaddy Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 BUMP- ...<snip>... ratlsnakedaddy, is your car driveable yet? How's progress. It has been slow going. Everything has been stalled waiting to get parts back from vendors. I also need a new hood ans a few parts, and found a whole parts car. Main problem with that has been getting in touch with the owner to make arrangements as he always seems to be out of town and has to reschedule. 1 Quote
Mark D Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 414 views and only four guys respond... come on gents. New England micro brews will be on hand and plentiful, and I'm sure we can convince Greg to salt some potato's for us. What do we need to do to get some more folks in attendance. Are we simply going to let those guys in Cali put us to shame with their weekend long events!!!? Times a wasting, lets get a date on the books. Quote
greg g Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 I wanna go here, I think there might be enough to keep us occupied for a while. Maybe this will shake out some reluctance cuz there isn't a car show involved. So don't even need to bring your car. http://www.americanprecision.org Quote
Mark D Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 At least two breweries/brew pubs in the area, that's good enough reason alone. Sleeping accomodations seem abundantly available as well. Would be nice to get a place where we could round the wagons for the night and chew the fat. Quote
pflaming Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) I will be in Bath, ME from June 16 - July 15. If you plan the event in Vermont during that time I will make every effort to be there. Would have to check out the distance from Bath ME to Saratoga Springs, NY but that sounds like fun. ( five + hours from Bath). Paul Edited June 10, 2014 by pflaming 1 Quote
greg g Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Saratoga Springs is north of Albany, famous for Revolutionary war battle, horse racing, mineral water, potato chips, performing arts, more taverns per capita that any other city in the US. Quote
Mark D Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 Excellent - Love to have you on board Paul. I pestered the wife last night for her work schedule so I can start working on dates. Mark D Posted June 16, 2014 Author Report Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) OK team - A date has been chosen. Weekend of the 12th and 13th of July. Destination; in and around the area of Windsor VT. Accommodations; looks to be several decent places in and around the area, suggestions gladly accepted and considered. Spouses are welcome if you can convince them to tag along. My wife and I will br traveling on Friday the 11th, we will be making several leisurely stops along the way and will aim to meet up with Greg G and his bride enroute. One place we will be stopping in at is the Vermont country store, just north of Bellows Falls. Once we know whose in attendance we can plan a gathering for Saturday eve. Mark D Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 Hi Paul - at this point I've only got a definite from Greg, so unless someone else is waiting to chime in closer to the date, it seems that its just him and I at this point. I can tell you from expirience that the drive to west from the coast of Maine to Windsor VT is a gorgeous day trip. It's about 200 miles and very do-able in a half day, with plenty to stop and see along the way. Here's the route I've driven. https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Windsor,+VT&daddr=43.7190429,-71.350367+to:Bath,+ME&hl=en&ll=43.771094,-70.631104&spn=1.431963,3.383789&sll=43.439471,-71.111079&sspn=2.879662,6.767578&geocode=FcBzlwId-Hev-ykT5WkIVMPhiTHKc6JdQBGGXg%3BFYIZmwIdoUe_-ynlQT9VWD6zTDG4Pl4JtkdGVw%3BFesFngIdRp_W-ymnrli0CYWtTDEJ9f44DJ2mmg&t=h&gl=us&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=8&via=1&z=9 Quote
pflaming Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Mark, I'm trying to work it out. We leave for the left coast on the 16th. That area of VT is quite beautiful if I recall. We spent a couple of days in Middlebury last summer which was very nice, but I think the rich farmlands are more toward Windsor. I would likely do a one nighter. There's time for others to join and I hope they do. We are in Bath and just love it out here. We try to come every summer for about four weeks. Paul ps if some one (others) from Maine want to car pool, that would be super special. Edited June 21, 2014 by pflaming 1 Quote
greg g Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 OK so this Northeast thing is now represented by NY, MA, and CA. I guess the rest of you 0 and 1 zipcoders are too shy . Maybe Paul's car pool idea will shake some loose. Remember you do not need to bring cars or trucks, just comeout and meet some folks. Looking forward to meeting Paul. 1 Quote
