ggdad1951 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 sent pictures with a tape measure nearby the parts to get an estimate of the cost of the parts. I've reiterated the most sought after part would be the parking light buckets. I'll let you know his price estimates after I hear back....I'd say 1-2 weeks or so Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Hey Mark; If you are really serious about this here is something to consider. There is a fellow named Jeff Peterson that is offering in the classifieds a complete nose section with all the grill pieces including a nice center emblem and parking light components. It is the painted variety but is in extremely good condition.....straight and no rust. I met him at the Pomona meet and saw it. Suggested he put it on our classifieds. It is real nice and I can't imagine finding anything in much better shape. You might consider buying this and using it for the patterns for the repop guy. Anyone doing this sort of work is probably going to need a straight nose piece to use to check fit up. I know I was very fortunate to buy a truck that had most of this intact. Even then there was a fair amount of small repairs and tweaking involved to get the whiskers to fit nicely. I can't imagine doing this very effectively without a good set of grille pieces and a straight nose section to test fit up against. Just something to think about. Jeff Quote

ggdad1951 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Jeff: I've got a set off the one TODD donor trucks that are in decent shape....at least repairable. I'm really hoping to get some in SS is my main goal....and no offense to the classified add, as I sell parts as well, I'd rather spend that amount of money on a set of repop SS bars Brent: as I say above, I have ulterior motives! Jeff Balazs Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Mark; I do understand what you are trying to get done. I didn't know you already had a good set to work from. Based on what I have seen out there the set he has including the nose section of the body is a good value. For someone looking for a paint type set very little effort would be required to make this set absolutely perfect. I am not try to discourage but with the complexity of the shapes required I would be very surprised if you can get this fabricated in SS for anything under $1500 a set. Could easily be quite a bit more. They do look nice though..... Jeff Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 if tooling gets made the base metal used really is not that big of a deal. They should be able to make sets in SS or CRS. The only one that I'm not comfortable fabing is the parking light bucket. The centers are super easy and just require a brake to make. The two whiskers are pretty easily made with 3 pieces welded up and ground/polished. By no means with these parts end up "cheap", but these parts are the most damaged on our trucks and the hardest to find/repair. The set in the classifieds is probably worth the money assuming they come off the nose w/o getting smoked. I've seen crappy sets go for $200. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Mark; You got that right. As I said I was lucky that mine were in fair shape. Even then there was some repairs and straightening needed to put it altogether. In general they seem like they really took a beating. I looked pretty closely at the ones that are on the classifieds now and they were real nice. It was already taken apart so I could handle each piece. If I had extra cash I would have bought them. Honestly I hope you are able to get these made. I respect the effort involved with something like this. I don't need them but I am fairly certain that there will be quite a few folks that do. And I have seen several project trucks that are missing pieces or the complete grill. Jeff Quote
Phil363 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Just starting out on my 1952 B-3-B project ... I would be interested on either SS or chrome. Mine are dented up and the lower lights have the bottoms compeleted rusted out and need replacment. Quote
